The new little 2.7L v6 EcoBoost in 2015 F150 will be a Big Game Changer for Ford. (Ref. Wards Auto article )

The CGI composite block gives Ford all kinds of power flexibility with this engine... Like a diesel but lower cost!

To position it in the engine lineup... Expect 320 Hp and "at least" 360 Ft Lbs torque to compete with other v8s n the EcoDiesel made in Italy...

Mpg should put F150 at Best of Class with 29 mpg.. !

Any bets?

 

Way to go - not only did you hit all the existing 2.7 threads you could find, but then started yet another one? Do you work in Ford's marketing department or something?

 

 

 

I agree and 29 mpg sounds about right.

And with a 2000 lb payload.
And a 8000 lb max tow rating.
And better performance.
And better braking.

It will be great having my fuel bill cut in half.
I will be going from 14-15 mpg to 25-30 mpg in a 4x4.

This is a game changer!

This Ram Eco Diesel adds $4,500 over the Semi-Hemi in Canada. Umm good luck. You can buy a lot of gasoline for $4,500! I predict Ford may be on to something with the new 2.7L.

 

I've been saying this exact thing for a while now. The diesel is an expensive option that uses an expensive fuel and requires more in maintenance costs. For all this extra cost you get very little in return.

It seems people are stuck 15-20 years ago when diesel fuel was dirt cheap and the diesel engines had much higher mileage. That's all gone now due to the new environmental regs. A high efficiency gas engine is much cleaner doesn't require near the pollution controls.

 

I've been saying it too. For a half ton truck, a diesel just doesn't make sense anymore. 10 years ago? Sure. It's pointless to pay $3k (or more) extra for an engine that doesn't get you any additional towing capacity, and gets 30% better fuel economy on 30% higher fuel. Just wait until the 2.7L comes out and equals (or betters) the Ram EcoDiesel in fuel economy. Sorry Ram...good try!

In a 3/4+ ton truck, it's a different story, since the diesel gives you much higher towing capacity and ratings. However, if I were buying a new 3/4 ton today and Ford had an EB V8 in it, I'd ditch my diesel in a heartbeat!

Wishful thinking on my part, but with Ford EB'ing everything else, I expect one to show up in the SD within 5 years.

 

We can speculate all we want, but no one will know a thing until the new truck and this little motor come out. I think "30" is very wishful thinking, but I hope it hits close to that mark. Little 4 bangers can barely get 30. But, regardless, the EPA rating will be high and the actual mileage for a lot of folks will be a lot lower.

 

You will be able to lock out the start/stop capabilities of this engine. People will do that and then blame Ford for not getting the EPA rated MPG.

 

^why would someone want to do that though?
