Moaning/Friction upon Deceleration

2015 - 5.0L Lariat Sport Screw 4x4
12,100 miles

Have any of you guys experienced any type of moaning/friction/light grinding upon deceleration? It feels (sounds) as if it is coming from the front end and more so the right side. This is happening with or without pressure being applied to the brakes. I thought it may have been a 4wd related issue so I had my local dealer check out the 4wd drive system and everything checked out. The issue now seems to be getting worse, but it is generally not impacting the drive-ability and there has not been a CEL or Service Indicator. the issue seems to be more frequent when the vehicle has sat, for instance it is worse in the morning.

I have a schedule appointment set up for next week as that was the soonest time they'd have a vehicle for me to borrow while they try to diagnose and repair. I'll report back with what I find out, but in the mean time I was curious if anyone else seems to be experiencing a similar issue.

Thanks! I have had many F Series trucks and notta one to date has had any issue like this.

Update. The issue is not constant, Tuesday and Wednesday morning the issue was not present. Last night on my drive home it was present. I have also shifted it into Neutral several times while it is present and the issue persists.

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing. Does the sound change with vehicle speed? You're under warranty so I would let the dealership fool with it. If you want to troubleshoot it, jack up the front and spin the wheel by hand and listen for the sound. Also, shake the wheel to see if there's any play in it.

Thanks for the suggestion Wookie, dropped it off this morning. I am thinking its a wheel bearing as well.

Got a 2016 STX Scab as a loaner at no charge....

Well..... They drove it around twice yesterday and of course they couldn't get it to replicate. They are going to drive it around again today and see. They think it might be one of the 4wd hubs trying to engage, does that make sense? The issue first presented itself after I used 4wd for the first time this winter back on the 17th of December.

Well...... Got a phone call late in the day yesterday and after the Shop Foreman drove it around they were able to duplicate the issue. Today they will start trying to identify the issue. They are no longer thinking it is a 4wd hub after they have experienced the issue.

The dealership has been working with the Ford Engineers and they are thinking it is actually a driveshaft issue. The engineers got a punchlist of items for the techs to do this morning and they think it will address the issue. I am supposed to have it back this afternoon, hopefully this corrects the issue.

I believe you have just described the issue I started noticing on my 2015 (5 liter, 4wd, supercrew). It only seems to happen at low speeds, sometimes on the brakes, sometimes not. Feels like a "groan" or like something in dragging slightly. I don't detect anything at freeway speeds.

That sounds like the exact issue I am having.

Update - Ford Engineers provided a checklist of items to inspect and review. They also pulled the driveshaft and cleaned up a rusted drive shaft seal thinking that may have been the culprit. Unfortunately all of the items reviewed did not solve the issue. They will be reviewing with Ford again on Monday.

Update on mine. I have it back, NOT repaired. The dealer - who i trust - said he's seen a bunch of them and Ford has told them do NOT attempt repair, because they do not yet know what is causing it. Not super happy about that, but I'm not upset with the dealer because they have to follow Ford's guidelines. In any case, that seals it for me, it will go back to Ford for sure when the lease expires in April, as I will not put up with that noise for however many months it takes to find the issue and get the parts to fix it. I feel bad for all the dealers that will have to deal with unhappy customers in the mean time.
