Is the 2.7 engine worth it?
Looking to trade in my 2012 XLT on a 2016 Lariat and was wondering if the 2.7 Ecoboost engine worth a try. The XLT has a 5.0 V8 with 3.73 gears which has not given me one bit of a problem, but its getting harder to find them around my area lately. The 3.5 Ecoboost in the Lariat is out of my price range (which I would be more happy with). The truck I'm looking at has 2.7 Ecoboost, and 3.55 rear.
So any likes or dislike would be appreciated.

I purchased my 2016 XLT Sport with the 2.7 EB and 3.55 rear gears, the middle of July. To date I have a little over 4,500 miles on it, including a trip from Ohio to Destin Florida when it was first purchased. I truly enjoy the available power and fuel economy.
My old truck was a 2004 FX4 5.4 with 3.73s, which was lucky to get 7-10 MPG around town. Today, I am getting 20 to 20.5 MPG around town.
Only complaint I guess, would be getting used to the Auto-Stop-Start. PIA when in stop and go traffic, but you can hit the cancel button. So far I am very happy with my little turbo engine.

Coming from a 2013 3.5 Ecoboost to now a 2016 XLT SPORT with the 2.7 and 7500 miles on it, I can honestly say "It is worth it".
Mileage increase was an HONEST 3.5 mpg increase going back and forth to work. Power wise I notice no real difference and maybe even a slight bit more with the 2.7 (feel, nothing scientific). however, I might contribute that to the lighter (almost 700 lbs) vehicle weight of the 2016 though.
The only annoyance i have is the engine start/stop feature and it's easily rectified by a simple push of a button. I usually deactivate it every time i start the truck.
If you need the extra torque and HP to tow something rather heavy the 3.5 may be the better choice, otherwise the 2.7 will do just fine and get better mileage doing it IMO.

Thanks to everyone for replying, I purchase the truck with the 2.7 ecoboost last week and have been happy with the motor. It runs good with plenty of pickup and the mileage is better than the old 5.0L. The truck is much more quieter than the 2012 and I love the Lariat over the XLT I had. But they are replacing one of the tail lights with the sensor for blind spot already because it rattles inside.
If anyone is looking for OEM running boards check ebay, I found them there and save over $400 for the pair.
Thanks Again,
Dennis
