Part true...You can only get the 5.4 with 4X4 or an 8' box. 4X2 only gets the 4.6 unless you get the 8' box.

I tried the build a truck at the Ford webpage and it let me build a XL in Blue Flame with the 5.4 in a regular cab, but it forced the 8 ft bed and the 6spd trans. FYI, hope that helps...
Can't wait for the Plat...

Dealership had a 09 reg cab 4x4 with the 8' bed and a 5.4 on the lot today. So yes, but it was only an XL work truck.

Ford is willing to build trucks with lots of towing power and warrant them as such.
But build a truck with a tiny cab, short wheel base, minischool bed and a gigantic engine?
hmmmm...what would a customer be planning to do with that?...No thanks, says Ford.
They have experience from battling their old Lightning customers.

Hmm... this is odd!
I never noticed this before.... no 5.4 2wd regular cab shortbed...
First its stick shift, now it's engine choices?!
What is Ford on crack!?
This is gonna tick a lot of performance modders off.
Interesting though...

a 4.6 reg cab stepside would be a perfect candidate for a 6.2 swap...

Just be glad you can still get a step-side. I think Ford is the only one still doing it.

Sigh. Yeah, as always YOUR idea of what would sell the most trucks is spot on and Ford missed the ball. What is it now, 31 years and running?
