Ya man, its true. This site has known about it for some time now. First we heard the 6.2 was completely gone. Then rumors it was in the Raptor. Now it is official, its in the Raptor for 2010.
I heard the news at the unvieling at the SEMA show. But I am sure someone has a write-up or some "proof" somewhere on here.
I don't know the scoop, but I never had a complaint out of either one of my 5.4's but if the 6.2 can be dependable and doesn't take no for an answer, My names all over it!

You got it. Some people are talking about waiting to get a new F150 until they have the 6.2. But from what I was reading in the magazine was that the 6.2 would not be available in the regular F150's, only the Raptor. I was just curious if that is correct or not? Maybe it is still up in the air with Ford as well?

its still up in the air. a bigger engine with more power requires more fuel and the market for that type of thing is very unstable. sure fuel went down lately but it WILL go back up possibly higher than before. i belive they are more focused on smaller displacement direct injection turbo charged engines(eco boost) that will use less fuel and have the same amount of power or more than the current 5.4. or possibly a small diesel... either way in about 1 year their should be something new under the hood.
The only F150 that will recieve the 6.2 L is the Raptor. Thats what FORD said at SEMA. Its specific for the Raptor. They don't see a huge market for it, and blah blah blah. Thats what the reps were saying anyways. I know they don't "know it all", but they seem to have a good idea.
I know nothing about the SuperDuty rumor.

I guess if we get a new 5.0L next year with adequate performance/numbers I could learn to forget the 6.2L.

I read someplace else that Ford scratched the idea of the 6.2 in the f-150 but its possible that they could be using the raptor as a test mule. They probably want to give the engine a hard beating to find weaknesses.

I don't know but imo if Ford develops a new engine like the 6.2 and only puts it in the Raptor which will be a low volume vehicle then they deserve to be where they are financially. Like 90% of super duties will be sold with diesel so it won't pay for itself there either and it would probably be in a low volume edition Mustang as well. So if they don't offer it in the something that will sell some volume like a regular F150 then imo I can't imagine it being a smart business move to have developed it.

Bingo! They can't afford to produce low volume engines. But to unveil it right now would have been BAD pr.
The Ford guys were saying that in order to make a profit, they don't need to sell many of these engines. The profit from the other trucks will more then make up for it. In this economy, people are not looking for the next "hot rod" and the 6.2, no matter what vehicle it is in, will not sell like hot cakes. So, in Ford's mind, they would end up LOSING money if they mass produced this engine, to only have it "sit on the shelf". So, in order to turn a profit, they have ONE plant producing these trucks. Make it limited, so there isn't much shelf time, and bingo, your turning a profit. The 6.2 liter 2 valve has been an engine for a long time, not as much R+D went into as you'd think.
- That was the jist of what they were saying. Just so yall know. I talked to a couple guys for awhile about it. The guys manning the Ford Raptor display. I was excited about the 6.2 so that, and the suspension, were some of the main talkin points I was asking them about (over and over ). I wont take what they told me as gold, but they might have a decent idea. But MAN would it be fawkin bad if they offered it with a FX4 model !
I agree with some of their logic I guess......if the company was comfortably in the black. Personally as much as I love a diesel, a big bad ass gasoline V8 will always be my favorite engine deep down so I'm glad to see it. But c'mon Ford, stick that 6.2 in a crew cab 4x4 or at least offer a crew Raptor.
