Aftermarket headunits?

Has anybody installed an aftermarket headunit in an 09 yet? Uncle is seriously looking at buying a new Ford F-150 super crew. In a bit of a pickle cause the 08s can be had for dirt cheap, but he likes the way the 09s look. But anyways, back to the question, he will be installing a double din Pioneer unit ASAP but from looking at trucks today, that looks like it would be a serious chore in a 09 F-150. Anyone done it?

To be honest i looked into this for a while. I looked at the best clarion and pioneer double dins and they were nice but the built in sync system done a lot more for about the same money. You are far better just going for the nav sync system as it is fully intergrated into the trucks system for controling many things. If you want the highest end audio avalible then after market is the only way but i think he would be very happy with the system from what i have heard about it. I was ready to spend $5000k on audio until i heard that it was a very very good standard setup.

He can't leave the radio stock... But he's looking at 08s now. Better deals and better options.

you'll have to wait until METRA or someone else to come up with a dash bezel replacement that has an opening for standard aftermarket radios (single or double din). They have for other cars that had a bunch of buttons/integrated radio like the F150. Probably will be expensive.

The factory Sony system sounds very good. If he were to hear it, I think he would be impressed.

Will have to wait until someone makes a dash kit. I dont even think the Nav screen kit will work with headunits, since the new nav is insanely large .

He was unimpressed with the fact that the 08 crew cab F-150s could only fit 10s under the back seat. His Ridgeline has two 12"s in it...

He wouldn't be. Unless it has a car-puter in the dash, he's not happy with it.

It's all good though. He almost signed on an 08 F-150 on Sunday. Good thing he didn't cause it turns out his lease on his Ridgeline isn't up until June, instead of January like he thought it was.

Must be all that ridgeline-driving that has fogged up his mind .

Thats exactly what it is. It's a operating system that was design by microsoft for vheicals. the Firmware can be updated just like pc's and it has been classed as the most advanced nav/audio system on the market. Not even the pioneer or clarions can come close. perhaps in a couple of years they will have a better system but for now the sync is the best.
