Is it just me?

Or can you not order a regular cab 4.6 3v or 5.4 3v? (2wd)

http://www56.forddirect.fordvehicles...l=&statetoken=

I imagine the dealership would do a custom order, but there at the same time i could see how they would just tell me that ford wont do it

You are partly correct. The only way to get the 3v engines in a reg cab is to go to a 4x4 or long bed. This is pushing me over the edge to go to chevy because I can get the 5.3 and six speed and a locker in a 4x2 short bed reg cab.

I noticed the same thing and could not believe it!

I guess Ford has completely abandoned the "street truck" guys by not allowing the big engine in the cab-and-box configuration that is most classic to the street truck genre.

Color me as one individual who is extremely happy I've got my '05 Regular Cab-Short Box truck with the 5.4 engine, and one who will never buy a new fullsize truck from Ford until they return this configuration to the line-up......

To me, pick-up truck means regular cab-short box, and every other configuration makes it nothing more than a "Family Truckster" that gets really lousy gas mileage......

Ford is cutting you off like they have cut off us V6 manual transmission guys. I guess we are both too niche market.

It's a shame too, because I just saw my first '09 Regular Cab today and the dimensions of it combined with the short box are absolutely perfect!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if Ford offered it with the 5.4 engine I'd most likely be looking at selling old Blue and ordering me a new truck! I love Blue, but I wish Ford had not destroyed the lines of the Regular Cab configuration by adding those ridiculous and useless rear doors.......

Here's my opinion - and second guessing.

The vast majority of shorties are sold as work trucks and basic daily drivers. The majority of those customers are more than happy with the base engine. For those customers with heavier duty requirements, they have the base F-250 for them.
