2009 f150 4.6

I'm new to the forum. Have a question about hp. Just bought the truck it has 73,000 miles on it and is completely stock.what are the best ways to get horsepower gains to the truck? I plan on installing a k&n and getting some duals. That will give me a little more horse power. I'd like to get it up around 300 or better if possible. What can I do besides those to achieve that. I live in Colorado and am about 5000 ft above sea level. Thanks

A tuner will do a lot more than what you are planning.

Intake and exhaust will not give you more power, just more noise and may lower low end torque. Stock intake is a cold air intake and exhaust is essentially straight through. Programmer and custom tunes is as good as it gets without going to forced induction.

You are at 292 HP stock.

That's odd considering k&n says depending on which you go with it will add 15-16 hp by just adding their cold air system. It says 292 hp but I seriously doubt it has that stock. I'm 5000 ft above seal level. Besides that can see videos on you tube with people testing theirs before and after add ons. Haven't seen one yet showing 292. Seen some 230's. Think that might have even been with the 5.4

K&N lies.

That 292hp rating is at the flywheel. subtract about 20% for rear wheel hp. El 5,000' will reduce hp a bunch. Trade it for an ecoboost. Turbo engines lose very little hp at high elevations.

Don't care much for those. My wife has a 2015 taurus limited we got her last year. It has the 3.5 Nice car and will move. We test drove a fusion economy boost before getting hers. What type of tuner should I use or get? Never tuned a vehicle or know anything about it.

I'd love to get 300 to the rear wheels if possible. Or as close as I can anyhow without going over board. Not a truck I will keep for more than a couple of years. Actually first ford I've owned in a while. Have driven chevy silverados the past 15 years. 97 z71 with the 5.7 and newer z71 with the 5.3, the front ends on those are junk. If you take them out and get on them might as well drop it off at the alignment shop before your tires get ate up. Had a Ford before those and was a tuff truck. This one seems rugged. Just want a little more power out of it.

Actually traded a silverado in on this one. We just got my wife a new car last year and looked for something in the 17-20,000 range and found this Ford f150 xlt extended cab. Will eventually trade this one in on a newer model f150. It has 63,000 miles with the 4.6 3 valve 6 speed auto in it and would like to give it a little more power than what it has now stock. It actually does pretty well, just needs a little ump in it.

Get a SCT device from one of the reputable tuning houses with custom tunes. MPT and 5Star are popular.

Nothing is going to give you close to 300hp at the wheels without forced induction.

300 at the wheels from a 4.6 at 5,000'? You're gonna need this.

Unless you only want it a little bit at a time. Then you can get away with this.
