35's dont fit and must trim metal. What is safe? Need help ASAP.

Just got back from the tire store, my Nitto 35/12.50/20's dont fit on my Jester rims with +12mm offset. So, Im gonna have to trim or downsize to a 305/55/20. I have attached photos of the metal that has to be trimmed. The first pic shows where it rubbed, on that little part that sticks out. The outside of the tire BARELY kissed that plastic so minimal trimming would be needed on the metal. I think the line I drew would be what would have to be trimmed.

ORRRR

I could go with a 305/55/20. Im not sure how different it would look.

Downsize, that will rust in a heartbeat. I'm a believer in buy parts that fit, not trim. Also, I'd get something on that rusty area.

Its not rust, just dirt haha. So would 295/65/20 or 295/60/20 fit?

Im having trouble spending $100 more on a 295 sized tire, much a less a lift. Im going back tomorrow to set whats gonna fit. I took off that back black thing (not sure the name) so we can see how the 35's rub. If its minimal, im gonna grind it cause the 295's are more money. I can always hide the grind behind the plastic. I think 295/65 would work cause the 12.50 barely touched the black so a tire that is 1in narrower would clear.

He's saying where you want to cut is going to rust quickly because the cut will leave bare metal behind that'll be a pain to get properly coated to not rust.

I have 295/70/18's with an 18x10 -24 wheel and the tires rubbed on that exact spot. I took a grinder and cut that part off until it was flush with the fender, sanded it down real good and hit it with some clear coat. tires no longer rub.

Sometimes the stock wheels or ones with close to stock specs are best to run 35's on with a leveling kit. The more the wheels stick out in the front the more chances to rub with tall and wide tires.

I also believe it's just dirt. If you open that area up it'll be completely FILLED with dirt, leaves and other debris that falls down through the cowling. I recently cleaned that area for the first time and was shocked with how much stuff came out.
