So I recently bought a 2010 F150 and today I locked the tailgate while I was doing some shopping and now I cant get it to unlock. I have a tri-fold cover so I cant reach anything from the inside. I tried penetrating oil which made it easier to turn the key but it just won't unlock. Has anyone else had this issue before? Any easy solutions? All my tools for work are back there so I need to get in there ASAP

that sucks I had to drill mine when that happened.

 

I would try the graphite lube that is made for that.

If that doesn't work, maybe a linkage inside broke. Only options are call a locksmith or if your comfortable drill it out.

the locksmith that drilled mine cost me 80 for a trip charge, then 210 for his time, then a charge of 370 for parts. after tax it was almost 700 bucks but it was on same key when he was done and he did spend a Saturday in my driveway working on it. after he got the gate open he had to get in side and redo a lot of plastic clip/rod holders and he rekeyed the new cylinder to my trucks key so it sucks but it was worth it. plus I put it in to my insurance co who payed me back all but the 250 deductible

 

Same problem with mine also a 2010. I have to disassembly the indoor tailgate panel and move manually the linkage. I can't remember why it failed but I fixed.

 

This happened to me too. I didn't have time to play with it immediately but the next time I tried to unlock it, it worked. I've also got a tri-fold tonneau cover so if it happens again, I'll be out of luck. Does anybody have photos of the linkage inside the tailgate with a description of what needs to be adjusted?
