milage on my 09 is getting bad

when I bought my truck in 2009 I was getting 16-17 mpg now I get 12,I no it says you don't have to change plugs until 100,000 but I was thinking about changing wires & plugs.
I change oil and filters around 3,000 so what else can I change or clean to bring it up to where it was when i bought my truck,it got 54,000.
THANKS JOE

There are no wires to change, there's a coil on top of each plug. It wouldn't hurt to get new plugs (Motorcraft SP-509), make sure you use dielectric grease in the coil boots.

Are you using Motorcraft 5w20 oil and Motorcraft filters?

Also wouldn't hurt to throw some Techron in the gas.

Have you ever:

- Changed the Fuel filter?
- Cleaned the MAF?
- Cleaned the TB?
- Replaced the front O2's?

BTW -100K plug changes are BS - gap growth affects mileage, power and driveability far before that. 60K, tops.

Other things to check - dragging brake pads, dragging parking brake, alignment...

Don't use ANY fuel additives except Techron (or the new Stabil 'Protection' preservative once in a while ).

Do you take a lot of short trips / short commutes? Over time, with the truck not warming up completely, an engine can sludge up, causing all manner of foibles.

I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the throttle body never cleaned the MAF never replaced the O2' sensors
How many sensors are on my 09,I googled it and it said four is that right, anyway I appreciate the help you guys and no where to start now.

I don't see where you would need O2's at 54k but if you do change them you only need to replace the front pair.

If you are using an oiled air filter such as a K&N, you need to clean the MAF.

You sure you aren't just getting gas with more ethanol? It almost sounds like you are using E-85 for the mileage to drop that much.

My apologies. For some reason (and I think I know why, lol), I thought you bought the truck with 54k on it, and it now has additional unspecified mileage.... lol.

Hence, unless it's been on a steady diet of crappy fuel additives, (Seafoam, octane booster, STP injector cleaners, Lucas, etc - which would eventually coat & foul the O2's), GLC is correct - yer O2's are likely fine. Unless one was beginning to fail regardless.

Best o' luck

The spark plug TSB doesn't apply to a 2009.

*sigh*

You honestly think I don't know that? Didje e'en read the linky?

To the OP: as I'm sure you've gleaned, the referenced post was for the use of additives as related to O2's, and change interval ... nothing more.
