Are superchips really super?

Automobile manufacturers must compete in a marketplace where fuel consumption, horsepower and torque are big factors, but they must also comply with emissions and other regulations. To meet these demands modern cars are controlled by computers. The computer, known as an ECU (Engine Control Unit), controls all engine settings like the air/fuel mixture, ignition timing and idle speed. A quick and easy way to do this and upgrade your vehicle’s performance is with a “superchip”, also known as an aftermarket performance chip. Aftermarket performance chips are made to adjust parameters to increase engine power and torque. The effects of the superchip can be easily reversed just by plugging it into the ECU and choosing the reset option, which will cause the ECU to revert to the factory settings. Overall, upgrading your ECU settings with a superchip is a fairly simple and low cost alternative for the everyday auto enthusiast.

Select your year model, check prices and choose superchips here: Performance Chips & Programmers at CARiD.com

I have an edge CS with the tunes that come with the programmer. MPG dropped of almost 3 mpg using the economy tune. I will probably end up selling it. Had it in both my 06 f150 and my 07 yukon and it seemed to cause oil consumption issues in both. Right now I am not running a tune with it and my MPG is back to normal.

^ he's a sponsor, why wouldn't he?

Ive wanted a CTS for a while now. Partially for the expected mpg increase, more for the gauges and the ability to add a back up camera that I didn't need when I purchased the truck, but would be great now. The dash pod is aesthetically pleasing over those stick on back up cameras. I just couldn't justify the sticker price and thought maybe one day the price would come down, but in the past 5 years the same model is around the same price. So for now I'll stick with what I know and what I got.

Personally I wouldn't run any of them. Custom dataloged tunes ftw. Why would you want to run a generic canned tune when you can have a tunes written specifically for your vehicle?

I got an Edge Programer 7 pod for the extra gauges I don't have and to change my trany so it shifts faster into high gear. less rpm better MPG. also put big tires , so I was able the set tire size too. I think I got 2 MPG more using it. sweet spot 50-55 mph for good MPG
