2013 f150 chatter noise during acceleration

Hi all,

Just went down the highway with the company truck (2013, 5.0). During acceleration say from 50MPH to 60MPH (approx. 1800 to 2000 rpm) a "chatter" noise emits from the right side of the engine. If I press the gas a little more then the noise increases and can be heard on the left as well. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

A few threads have popped up on here for the same issue and i dont think any of them has been resolved. Any chance its pinging for bad gas?

The sound is reminding me of a pump losing suction.

Hey Transplant,

Have you spoke with your Ford Dealer about this? Shoot me a PM with your name, VIN, mileage, dealer, and best daytime phone number; I'll have a look.

I have had my 2012 5.0 to make what I called valve chatter on the right side under light acceleration usually going uphill at very low rpms. Both times I really noticed it, it was after putting 87 gas in my tank, not always a full tank. Never had it to do it at upper speeds and move to both sides of engine. I am on my second tank of 93 in the past 2 weeks and no noise so far. Also i removed my air aid intake and put the stock one back on to see how it goes. So far so good! I had my vin number checked with fords data base and they said nothing there. I found a couple other threads and sent pms to others that described what I did and they said higher octane gas cured theirs. Yours sounds more intense being on both sides. I hope you can find something out. Are you running off brand gas 87 and what about intake, is it stock?

Nick

I am having the same issue with my 2013 F-150 Lariat 5.0. Do you know what the issue is/ where it is coming from? Also an estimated cost to fix it?
