Arrow What to pay for a new, leftover 2012 Platinum?

***Update in post # 27.***

Truck in question is a 4x4, 6.5 ft bed, eco boost engine, 3.73 gears, max tow deal, red candy paint.Sticker is $52,035. It DOES NOT have nav or moon roof. It looks like dealer had had it 9 months. I'm guessing its still there due to the 6.5 ft bed and lack of nav and moon roof.

I started out looking at 2013 XLTs but I really want leather seats that are heated and cooled.

Am I unrealistic for expecting a smoking deal on this truck? Dealer told me $42,000 + ttl over the phone which I told them they weren't even close.

Is the Ford Ranger $1,500 rebate still available(I have a 99)?

Is 36.5k with all rebates attainable?

I don't have a trade and plan to finance thru my local credit union.

Not a dealer in the country will go 36.5 in my opinion. Good luck though, I hope you can get it.

If i were to guess id say you MAY be able to get down to 40,000.. That would be 12k off sticker... No way you can get that Platnium for 36.5... But good luck trying

At the end of the day, you could probably get almost the same deal on a '13 Plat with HID's, the length bed you want and with Nav, etc. My loaded 2013 Plat MSRP was $52K and I got it for low-to-mid $40's. You just have to shop several dealers and leverage them against one another for the best deal. When it's all said and done, you are going to have this truck a long time and you don't want to be reminded you didn't get what you really wanted every time you drive it...

Dealer 1 with the 2012 platinum went down to $41,000. $39,500 if I finance through Ford. $12,535 off msrp doesn't seem like a great deal on a truck that is already a model year old.

Also looked at the following 2 trucks at Dealer 2.

2013 platinum. MSRP of $52,750. Quoted at $42,250 + ttl. Includes $1,000 rebate for financing through Ford.

2013 FX4. MSRP of $51,2xx. Quoted at $40,500 + ttl. Includes $1,000 rebate for financing thru Ford.

Dealer 2 claimed they were selling both trucks at $250 over invoice. They would not budge off either number and were quick to shake my hand and move on to the next customer lol.

Thoughts? I was really hoping to get a 2013 platinum for under 40k after rebates + ttl.

Let it simmer awhile. Dealer 2 might come down in price like Dealer 1 did without you having to do anything. Let it simmer.

You could also try requesting a brochure by mail on Ford's website which may include a $750 coupon if you're lucky.

The 2013 Plat retail $52k / discounted to $42K is not a bad deal actually...that's roughly a 19% discount off of MSRP! And a current year model to boot.

Thanks for the opinions. I did request a brochure be mailed to me. Hoping there is a $750 coupon in there. Dealer 1 is going to look for a 2013 platinum and shoot me his best deal. At this time, the 2012 is not a good enough deal for me to jump on it.

Dealer 2 is right here in town and I have mixed emotions about them. I used to work with the sales guy 8 years ago. I brought up Fairway Ford in Ohio and told him what they have FX4s and XLTs advertised for and the closer said that is not possible. No way, no how. Bait and switch deal according to him. I even offered to pull it up on my phone and the closer guy got kinda pissy.

My heart is set on a platinum so that is what I'm going to hold out for.

it's hard to know how to negotiate when you don't know how the pricing for a new truck is calculated. Learn about what rebates are offered from ford, what invoice is, $75 max doc fee, etc. Throwing out random numbers isn't going to make it happen. If I was the dealer I wouldn't sell it at a loss. They could just put it on the used truck lot which has higher sales and lack of clean few yr old low mile used trucks and have buyers fighting over it.

I know the rebates. I'm well aware what "invoice" is. That is not necessarily what a dealer pays ford for the truck. Says it right on the price sheet. Dealer claims to be giving up the hold back($1,5xx) which leads me to believe they are getting more help from Ford to move it.

I'm not over paying for a truck, especially with a inflated MSRP. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm shooting for 25% off msrp on on a platinum. What am I basing that off of? Multiple FX4s advertised that way... Right or wrong, that is my thought process.

2012
$3,500 customer cash
$1,500 Ranger loyalty(95+, I have a 99)

$1,500 if I finance through Ford

2013
$2,500 customer cash
$1,500 ranger loyalty

$1,000 if I finance through Ford

As far as the dealer sending it to the used car lot, they would still have to title it in someones name in order for it to be considered used. There isn't a shortage of clean, low mile trucks around here either. They have a mint 2011 platinum w 21k right now.

Lorne,

I'm pretty new in this vicinity, but, if you don't mind, my two cents.

I bought a 2013 Plat two months ago. It's a maxed out (save the max towing package), long-box, 5.0, 3.55. Must say, I've never owned a vehicle like this before. Yeah, I'm new to pickups.

I've had more than a couple say it's like a limo. Right, a limo that can haul and haul ***.

I'm also pretty big into technology, and was quite surprised at "what's out there now". My first little excursion using the NAV had me within 15-feet before the destination "announcement" (which I subsequently turned off) ... and that's in rural southwestern Idaho. I've already gone through one download and update of NAV (free, and you need a semblance of know-how with USBs and SD cards).

On the return trip, I purposely "violated" the prescribed route, which I believe, by default, is set on "freeway" (there are a bunch of settings; gotta look in the book). Every mile of the way that NAV "knew" right where I was ... within 75-100 yards. Plotted to shortest route back to the barn, too. Pretty amazing, I guess. Good thing I'm not a bootlegger.

The whole SYNC thing (somewhat misunderstood; people and their bluetooths) seems to work very well. Never have had a problem sending or receiving via the iPhone 4. Maybe it was the earlier SYNC systems that caused concern. My truck hasn't. I have not explored all SYNC features (because I'm still reading the F-150 manual for this computer that thinks it's a truck).

With these new F-B-W trucks, you have to be connected with the Official Ford Owner Site (https://owner.ford.com) and SYNC Owner (www.syncmyride.com)

The Sony sound system is great and I love my tunes. No, it doesn't have twin 10-inchers in back.

Quietest vehicle I've ever experienced. $50k total (after $5k in rebates/discounts, and $2k in trade-in), including 7yr/75,000m extended service and maintenance. Pay for virtually nothing more than tires and gas. Essentially $47k plus the security.

Does not include the 7 mods/addons after purchase. Welcome to the money pit.

Buy a new Platinum and I doubt that you'd regret it. Moonroof required. Manual on hand-washing to follow.
