How are guys getting an acurate door open signal for an alarm? Our dome lights have a delay on, and also go on when shutting the truck off which seems to mess with Passive mode on most alarms. Is there any way around this?

Hey MGD...thanks...but the problem is the older trucks work fine...but the 2009-2010 seem to have an OPEN circuit....which means that when the door is closed the door a null signal (open)and when the door is open, it shows a positive. If i use the door trigggers the "auto arm" wont happen since it never gets a signal when the door is closed. Now MOST installers jsut go to the dome light trigger...which does work...but when you have the alarm set for Passive mode...it wreaks havic....you stop for gas....shut the truck off...the dome light goes on....then goes off making the alram think you jsut opened and closed the door and walked away...so it arms its self. Kind of a PITA.

I just wasnt sure if anyone came up with a solution..or work around.

This threads says the opposite of what you are finding: http://www.f150forum.com/f38/viper-d...er-help-77100/. This suggests the door triggers are grounded when closed, which means the alarm has internal pull-ups, methinks.

And, if it's indeed a truly floating connection when the door is closed, I wonder if a simple pull-down resistor will do the trick - ( I dunno, 220-1k ohm ). Or a simple relay arrangment to provide the exact trigger signal required (redneck approach, lol). Just guessin' ....

There is some stuff on diode isolation on www.the12volt.com, but I don't know how applicable it would be for yer situastion.

Lastly - What does the alarm manufacturer's tech support say about this?

I simply turned off passive mode.

 

Yeah thats one way to get around it...but I like using Passive mode...dont have to think about locking the truck....also...even if you arm the truck yourself....you have to wait for the domelight to go off before you arm it otherwise the alarm thinks you have a door open, and "some" alarms will then BYPASS that particuar trigger...which means someone can open the door without the alarm going off

Looks like its very possible.....jsut have to do a little extra wiring...not too bad at all

Hmmm, when I arm the alarm on my truck the dome light turns off instantly. I do not have to wait for the dome light to turn off.
