tire size question

Hello, I just purchased a 2009 F-150 XLT Supercrew, I'm sure it's listed on this site but I couldn't find it. I was curious what tire sizes I could fit on here without any kind of lift? It has the 255/70/17 right now, would that be the max or could I get something else on this wheel? Thank you very much.

there are many online sites that have computer aided fitment programs that will tell you. Also just browse any of the speed shops as they hae hard opy manuals as well. Its always free to window shop and get price quotes.

It can fit 18s for sure and maybe 20s. The XLT's come with 18 and 20 inch options and I am sure there are no differences in the truck itself.

Wheel diameter has nothing to do with it (to a point). It's the heigth and width of the tire. If he has a 4x2 he can fit a 285/70-17 using the OEM wheels. If he has a 4x4, he can fit a 315/70-17 using the OEM wheels and a leveling kit.

The problem with a 315/70-17 is that most tires in that size have a minimum wheel width of 8.5" while I believe the OEM wheels are only 7.5" wide. Not sure how big of a problem that can cause but something to keep in mind.

Running a tire on a wheel that is too narrow can sometimes cause the center portion of the thread to wear slightly faster than normal. That being said, several members here and FTW have run them with no problems.

tire size

Lance, What size tire did you go with? My 2010 will be here anyday and I am wondering about largest tire size without a leveling kit also. I currently have 285/70/17's on Pro Comp 17X9 wheels from my 05 that I would like to put on right away, but haven't found much info on the 09-10 models.

Depending on the offset of those Pro Comp wheels they may not fit without some rubbing. I have the same tire/wheel sizes and they rub just BARELY at times with a 2" leveling.

Just my 2 cents here, as I too have a 2009 Screw and will eventually up size from the factory 255x70x17 tires . I went with a set of V Tech Off Road style 326 wheels { they have several styles } in 17" x 8.5 width and +25 mm back spacing . Because of the holiday season, and other financial obligations right now, I elected to stay with the original tires for the time being. This setup only VERY SLIGHTLY pushes out the tires { guessing, I'd say maybe 1/2 " at the very most } I do have an All Spring 2" lift on hand, but NOT presently installed . I'm seriously considering either Toyo or Nitto all terrain style rubber in the 285 to 295 x 70 x 17 range when I'm ready to buy ? I really would rather not use the 2" lift kit if I don't have to { potential garage clearance issues } so I am not going overboard in tire size , these would be the max sizes , provided they fit without a lift and NO trimming of any body parts ? Pro Comp wheels { and many other brands } with their available b/spacing would have pushed the tires too far out for me {imho it looks a bit odd, puts stress on the front suspension, and throws crap all over the trucks sides } not to mention possible rubbing issues ? As stated, just my 2 cents worth .

website is www.visionwheel.com if interested ?

Thanks Statikuz,
That is kinda what I thought. I had these tires/wheels on my 05 4x4 with the 2 inch leveling kit and they rubbed a little too. I did decide to take the leveling kit out of the 05 yesterday, so I will just put it in the new one after I pick it up this afternoon.
