lower control arms

I was looking at the lower control arms in my 2010 fx2 and noticed they are made out of metal, and i know in the previous generation ford bragged about being the first in the industry to use cast aluminum lower control arms in a full sized pick up. Any ideas on why they changed back to steel? Was it a pure cost factor or was it related to towing? Just a random thought.

There was a large thread about this on hear somewhere. I think it was due to cost also but don't doubt the steel arms. Cast alloy is much weaker than stamped steel in that form. Now if it was a forged alloy arm then I would agree that strength may be a reason to use it but the cost would be much higher than a cast alloy arm. Alloy just looks nice though so it's a mental thing.
