IPOD indexing problem

Does anyone have the same problem as I do? I can connect my IPOD Touch 8 GB and it takes 20 minutes to index. Then it works great....until I disconnect it. Everytime I reconnect it has to do another index and it takes another 20-30 minutes. I have searched here and googled and the fixes I find dont see to work.
My computer is up to date, ITUNES is up to date and the IPOD is new and I have emptied it and filled it again to now avail.

One of the solutions that works for others on syncmyride.com was to switch to another input before turning the car off. I tried this too but it still doesnt work. Any help would be appreciated.

Somehow I totally missed this. This is a microsoft plug in for ITUNES.

I just downloaded it and ran it and I am now syncing my ipod to the laptop. I will try syncing to the truck tomorrow and see if this helped.

My ipod only indexes when I have added new music or other content on the ipod. Even so, I have an old 60G ipod with 40ish gig of music and it only takes 5-10 minutes to index. Not sure why the 8g touch would be so slow.

I just encountered this problem yesterday after I updated the software on my iPod touch to the new 3.whatever version. I did not have this problem with the old software 2.whatever version. I have spent several hours in my truck since updating the software on my iPod and it is still indexing. It finally will play music while still indexing, but I don't have access to the playlists and music library. It is working like it is hooked up with line-in cord vs. the USB cord. Hopefully someone will find a fix for this, it is driving me nuts!

After more googlin this morning, I came across this.

Looks like it must be related to the ipod touch/phone's latest update.

Some say, "rolling back" to an earlier version works. Now I am looking for a way to do that.

MY issue is GONE!

I dont know which of the fixes did it but my ipod works perfectly now! I upgraded the IPOD firmware to 3.1.2, and I ran the SYNC MYITUNES (link in above post) and its working great! It only took 10 minutes for the first sync (6gb songs) and I have been in and out of the truck all day.

Great news! Thanks for posting your find. I will try it in mine tomorrow. I finally let my iPod index while I came in the house for about 1.5 hours. It finally indexed and has worked ok today, but I am going to run these installs any way. Thanks again.
