Brake dust shield / covers

I know there is a lot of talk about front wheel brake dust......It's heavy.

Has anyone tried the brake dust shields or covers to cut down on this??

Most of us just replace the pads with a qualty pad like Wagners ThermoQuiet. It solves the problem.

+1 Rocking the semi-metallics myself and nearly no dust in the time that I would have washed my wheels twice with stock pads.

MGP Caliper Covers makes a real nice caliper cover. It is not an entire shield, but a cover for your stock caliper. I just put a set on my 2006 Mustang GT and they look great. They do also cut down on the brake dust a little also. Here is the link to their website: http://www.calipercovers.com/ They just came out with their products for the new F-150. They make three colors in powder coat, or you can get them painted to match your vehicle color. I plan on getting a set for my SCrew as well.

I have installed three sets of Kleen Wheels on past vehicles, and have been very satisfied. Absolutely NO dust on my 2005, 2007, and 2008 F-150's. I am seriously considering them on my Expedition because the Eddie Bauer wheels are a pain to clean. If I was close to a brake job, I'd maybe consider pads, but they still are no way near the cleanliness I have experienced with the Kleen Wheels. Now, you can get Kleens in custom colors if it suits your fancy, too.

Smokewagun, Three different trucks and you still approve. Sounds like that works until I need to replace the pads. I have a friend with an F350 who changed pads a few times, new vented rotors and still was not satisfied with results for his issues. Not just brake dust.

I have a set of Kleen Wheels off my 2007 Lariat that had the chrome 18's. I'm hoping they'll fit the wifes 2008 Eddie Bauer Expy with 18's. I don't see a matching # on Kleen's site. I had them on my 2005 Lariat (18's) and on the last 2008 King Ranch with 20's, and I'd do it again. I am leary about pad changes for towing.

the kleen wheels with the colors dont look bad, I have yet to see a photo of a set though? from what people say it reduces the brake dust 90ish% (almost completely)?

I have had a set of the kleen shields for about a month or so and very happy. They reduced brake dust a lot more than I thought or heard it would.

If I was ready for new pads I mighta sprung for them at the time instead. Maybe.

Another vote to replace the pads all the way around with wagner TQ semi metallics. Much better option than the dirty stock pads.

I really don't notice alot of brake dust on my '09. Yeah there is some, but you have to really get close to see it. Nothing at all like my '05 had with the stock pads. Those wheels turned in no time after a wash.
