2006 4.6 2v vs. 2009 4.6 2v engine

Has any of you guy that owned 2006 4.6 2v that purchased new 2009 4.6 2v feel a real loss of power? My 2006 had great power and ran like a scolded dog and I had 3.55 gears. My new 2009 has 3.73 gears does not seem to have the power that my old truck had.

Did you modify your 2006 any differently to effect performance? If not does your 2009 have larger wheels than your 06 did?

Darren, had 32" tall tires on my 2006 with 3.55's and my 2009 has 32" tall tires with the 3.73's. Both trucks have not been modified with performance parts.

Both trucks were supercab 6.5' bed 4x4's STX. Only thing different is my 2009 has t.tow pkg. and 3.73LS. From the weight slips at the land fill the new truck is about a couple hundred pounds heavier. Same power options.

Maybe I just need to run the pi$$ out of it after my first Oil Change. Gonna change it at 2000 miles. Only got 800 miles on it now. Ran the pi$$ out the 2006 after the first 2000 miles. Everyone of my friends that drove my 2006 thought I had the 5.4l in it not the 4.6l till I opened the hood and showed them.

Optimal performance usually comes around 10k miles. Ever read a long term road test from any car rag? Performance is usually better at 40k miles than 1k. Give it time. But a couple hundred pounds heavier will prevent it from being any quicker than your old truck.

The 4.6 2v motor in the 09 does not have the 6 spd, still has the 4 spd, gotta get the 3v motor to get the 6 spd.

Maybe 4-spd auto FTL would have been better. OP should have gotten the 6-spd with any available engine, but it's too late now.

Maybe Ford programmed the new trucks to be more comfort oriented than the last generation.

I know that I do have the 6-speed auto trans, nor did I want the 6-speed trans. I loved the engine and trans combo that I had in my 2006 (4.6L 2V and 4-speed auto) so thats why I purchased the same combo on my 2009. Too many bugs to be worked out yet in the new 6-speed trans.

The 6-spd has been used mated to the same engines in the Expedition since 2006 IIRC. It certainly isn't new.

Anyway, you got what you got. give it 5k miles and it should improve a (engine/trans learning, and break in) as well as you'll just get used to this truck.
