So you pee in a tank for the NOx after-treatment? Too bad diesel now costs an arm and a leg more than gas.

Ok lets look at this.......If the 5.4 is 310 HP that would be 310HP x 9%=27.9 more HP or 337.9 HP

Now the torque.....365 in the 5.4 with a 15% increase would be 365 x 15%=54.75 more TQ or 419.75 FT-LBs

Now the fuel economy.....And this is where alot of people think this engine is going to be great.....The 5.4 is 18-20MPG x 20%=21.6-24 MPG

To me all these numbers are not that great but thats just me. I cant see paying the extra money up-front for the diesel, the extra cost for maintance, the higer fuel cost, I just cant see the benefit of the diesel.

um, your fuel estimates are kinda high. Ford website says MPG for '08 F150 is 13-17 so that would put the diesel at 15.6-20.4MPG

So that only makes me agree with you even more. I'd say if there's next to no premium for the diesel option, maybe. Otherwise I just don't see the point.

you need to water mark all of your pics ASAP, as you have already discovered, they tend to wander quickly

The 2009 F-150 fuel economy will be better than the 2008 F-150, and Ford is basing the 20%+ 2010 increase off of the 2009 F-150 increased fuel economy. It also says 20 + increase for the diesel which could mean an additional 20-30% increase.

There is more to it than just the costs involved. The benefit of a diesel is for people who haul and tow - increased hauling and towing. Then there will be people who say, but Rambo, if you're going to tow why don't you just buy a Super Duty? Because for 1) some people like the F-150 better and 2) the Super Duty costs more.

Find me a link stating this from 2008. Last i heard the tonawanda plan wasnt going to make the engine and GM was not sure if a small diesel was still in the works.....
