I do pretty much all my maintenance on my vehicles but I wanted to post a thread here to hear about how far you guys go with it.
I know we had a thread about who changes their oil, rotates their tires, etc etc. But I am looking for more then that.

I will also post up the Factory recommendations and what I use. I would like to see what you guys are using and how you like it.

Brake Fluid- Shop
For Brake fluid I still have the Motorcraft high performance Dot 3... But when I swap out the brakes for new Hawk pads and slotted rotors I was thinking of going with something like the Amsoil Dot 3 Brake fluid.

Coolant- Shop job
For the coolant, I still have the Motorcraft Premium Gold ethylene glycol based engine coolant, but when it comes time for a flush, which I will have a shop do, I was tying to decide if the Motorcraft would go back in, or something like the Amsoil product with up to seven years or 250,000 miles of coverage. Seems like some good stuff and is "universal"...

Motor Oil- Myself
I currently am switching between Amsoil and Royal Purple 5W-20 with a K&N filter at about every 4K miles. I switch according to availability of the 5W-20.
The filter is a blessing with the 1" nut at the top. (7qts)

Power Steering- I leave it alone
Motorcraft MERCON ATF.. Just keep it full.

Drivetrain- I am wanting to switch to all one brand of superior fluids when I change them out.

Transfer Case fluid- Not sure... probably myself
Ford recommends Motorcraft MERCON ATF (2.0Qts), I am looking at the Amsoil Syn ATF that meets and exceeds Fords MERCON requirements.

'Course, I work on them for a living, so I have an inside track.

Yeah, I work on my trucks at home. I got the tools, the resources and the know how. Plus plenty of room to work any time during the year. Not to mention it is usually 70F in my garage all year long anyhow.

So it makes it really easy to work on.

Ahhhh..... really? I have never greased seat tracks in my life. Doors yes. Is this in the manual somewhere..... I mean really, who grease's their seat tracks?

If something is not exposed to some sort of weather, where would current grease go? Does it evaporate? And how often do you move your seats that it would push the grease out? Just curious

I noticed nothing about conditioning the rubber seals around the doors, which are much more important.

BTW.... all fluid change I get done at a shop with the fluids I buy (Mobil 1) and then I verify that they are done and properly filled.

Nice. My garage gets a bit chilly in the Winter so I have to bundle up to work on the vehicles, but in the Spring and Summer it is awesome. Yesterday was 60deg and sunny (rare in WA, for example today it is 40 and raining) so I took the time to change a fuel pump on the wifes truck, threw a new fuel filter, oil filter, and new oil in. Also cleaned the whole engine bay on both trucks and used a cleaner wax on them both.
Fun stuff.

I went down the list of items listed in the manual. It is listed, and I do on occasion wipe out the old grease and reapply. It isnt a fail issue, but the material is used for multiple applications, so why not take a second and throw some on there... Also the old grease will remain there for quite a while, but sometimes lint/ fries/ dirt/ etc accumulate in the track and will remain unless cleaned out.

For conditioning the rubber seals, use Silicone Spray which is meant for rubber, plastics, and other non-metallic surfaces.
Helps prevent rubber cracking and drying
Displaces water
Excellent mold release lubricant

Besides the 4k on the oil, do you stick with the book on all the other intervals?

I try to stick with the books... sometimes it is kind of stupid... but I believe in the longrun it is better for the vehicle.

I even keep an Access database for all of my service needs... it sounds a little too crazy, but I got proof of what has been done and what still needs to be done. I got it set up in a nice form layout and I have printable reports for each vehicle. I also plan on integrating my findings from Blackstone from the oil tests.

I put my service into the Ford's MyVehicle page, but I have been wondering about the proof. Hope i don't get hosed if something goes.

If you are not doing anything with the calipers, I'd leave the brake fluid alone. Wait till there's a need to crack into the hydraulics before flushing the fluid.

In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with Amsoil products.

Power steering is now speced for Mercon V. Amsoil ATF is suitable with a complete replacement.

MP is great stuff. Buy a case and use it everywhere you would use WD-40 or a water displacement chemical too.

The Amsoil 5W20 is not a true synthetic - it's a Gp 3 dino like Mobil 1. You can use the 0W20 (ASM) or the 0W30 Signature series, those are true synthetics and they meet Ford specs. The Amsoil Ea oil filters are absolutely top notch too. I'm considering one of their cleanable dry air filters, it's supposed to be a nanofilter.
