Radio not going off when door opens

When I open my driver door my accessories will not turn off but they will eventually time out. If my headlights are still on when I open my door I will not get the warning dings. I have to reach over and open the passenger door to disengage the accessories. Also if my door is ajar while in drive I still will not get the warning ding. How do I fix this so my truck recognizes my door open?

there is a relay that controls this feature. Check the fuses section of your manual, the relay should be around $10 at the auto parts store.

Had the same problem in my '04 and it was the corroded purple wire in the rear drivers side sill. Also lots of water in there that I drilled some holes for drainage. No problems since

Does your dome light come on when you open yours drivers side door? If not, check the door jamb switch and make sure it's not stuck in the "closed" position.

David,

I think you're going to find that they no longer use a plunger switch in the door jamb. The switching function has been part of the door latch mechanism inside the door since about 1997. And of course it's both more of a pain to get to and much more expensive to replace!

Well blow me down -- you made me get up off my rear-end to check all my vehicles and the only ones with a jamb switch are my '97 Cavalier and '87 LTD. Next thing you know, you're going to tell me none of them have carburetors......

Had this problem and its like he said that purple wire in the drivers side rear door sill. They used a type of tape for one of the connections that absorbs water and corrodes. Cut that piece out and reconnect.
