Rear shocks

Does anyone know if 2009-2013 rear shocks would work on the 2004-2008?
I have found a set of "new" take-offs cheap. My thought was to go with a 4WD shock due to I had never changed my rears after installing a 1 5/8" factory block from a 4WD. I know my shock length is maxed at droop as I can hear it clunk at full droop making hard turns up a curb cut, etc.
Other than that the truck rides fine with the 2WD original shocks, just thought I'd double check here and see if it would work. Can't find much info on the stock OEM lengths.

I think they should work. They lengthened the leaf springs, but I'm pretty sure the rear shock mounting points didn't change.

Ps when you do change them, you don't need to remove the wheel or jack up the truck. It's that easy.

If you find they don't work, there are other options. I changed my rears out to Monroe reflex. They were $37 each at Rock auto and the ride is better than the stock I had with 90k on them.

I'm thinking they'll work too. If not, they're only 29.00 a set and free ship so not a big loss if any.

Glad I replaced the shocks. Both rears were pretty much useless as you can see from the pics. Compressed both with little resistance and neither would rebound.

I just spent some time yesterday looking at this because I ordered 09 4WD shocks by mistake.
The 04-08 4WD uses the same shocks as RWD 09 onward
KYB lists them as 16" compressed and 27" extended with 11" travel.

The 09 4WD is listed as 16 3/4" compressed and 28 1/2" extended with 12" travel.

KYB lists the 04-08 RWD as 15" compressed and 25" extended with 10" travel.

The shocks I ordered have a compressed length of 17 3/4" so I plan on taking some measurements off the bump stop to be sure they won't bottom out...

Do you load it up near capacity? Otherwise I'd think you will be fine with the extra inch.

Not anymore.
I use to haul around ATVs and my Harley, but I use a trailer now.

Update on the rear shocks. I've had them on a week now, and couldn't be happier with the ride.
These are valved from the factory for the '09-'13 FX4, but are very compliant without feeling to mushy. The last thing I want is a stiff and/or bouncy shock (been there with other trucks with HD shocks and LT tires).
I've tested them on good and bad roads, including washboard gravel roads. Very controlled without any bone jarring feelings during compression or rebound. Feels about right and considering the weight of my fiberglass cap seems like a good match. Best of all the price was right at $29/pair and install only took 20 minutes taking my time and hauling my tools up from the basement.

Glad to hear! The rear shocks on these trucks are easy to replace, huh? Took me about 20 minutes when I did mine as well.

4 bolts and real quick with the impact and only need to crawl under for the bottom 2.
