brake problems

Rear brakes pads are rubbing on the rotor. Had the same problem year ago, got it fixed. Now its starting to do it again. Anyone else have this problem? How to fix, so it doesn't happen again?

Replace the slide pins and boots, and make sure to clean any gunk out of the holes the slide pins go in.

Use a quality slide pin lube.

DO NOT USE GREASE!

Also check to make sure piston is functioning as intended. If not working correctly either rebuild caliper or replace it.

I have this problem too. I thought the rear brakes were overheating due to the parking brakes hanging up. So I replaced the cable on the driver's side and cleaned up the mechanism that pivots and put anti-seize on it and thought the issue was solved. NOT!

Yesterday the right rear got really hot. I stopped at a storage/used car business that was closed (to look at a 2004 Corvette) and saw the smoke coming from the right rear. I noticed the business had a water hose handy so I put water on the wheel and disc until it cooled off. Then I drove it home about 10 miles and it wasn't hot at all when I got home. But the other side was getting hot. I suspect my calipers need replacing. I replaced my pads a while back and didn't replace the calipers.

This is a good video about how to fix a sticking parking brake. The problem could also be caused by the master cylinder.

Never let the calipers hang on the brake hoses when replacing your pads or you will have this problem. it damages the inner brake hoses, then, does not let the fluid go back to the master when you take your foot off the brake pedal. Calipers will not release!

It's probably just a matter of the brake hoses getting old and pliable. I probably should replace the hoses all around. The right front hose ruptured last summer when my truck was on the boat ramp with the boat hooked up.

Sorry didn't want to make it sound like someone did something wrong to cause brake hose problems. Yes age will do the same to brake hoses.

Well, I just ordered from rockauto the front left brake hose, both the rear right and left hoses, the rear center hose, and both rear calipers. Maybe that will fix my problem.

Will do. It will take a few days for delivery. I'm retired. I also have a car and 2 motorcycles for transportation so I can do without it for a few days. My wife has a car too but she drives it to work every day.

I just got an email from a buddy who has had a 97 F150 and he bought my old 2000F150 from me. He said he had trouble with the brake lines on both trucks causing the calipers to not release the pads. He said the inner liner swells with age and restricts flow and won't release the pressure.
