help please 2005 f 150 4.6 4x4 super cab

Looking at buying. Not gonna tow anything. Just buying for winter and hauling light stuff from house.. just curious. Seen problems with transmissions going out. And something to due with spark plugs. It has 120,000miles on it. Any suggestions or help with anyone who has them or knows..how this truck is. Thank You in advance

The transmission is no less reliable than any other auto trans out there. 4.6 doesn't have the spark plug issue, but with 120k you should probably change them if they have never been done. Should be a very reliable truck if it's been well maintained.

My 2004 F150 STX 4x4 has 200k on it. Only used full Syn oil in it since it was new. Runs like new after changing the fuel pump driver mod. under the spare tire that went bad. If you buy this truck it would be the first think I change. DORMAN sell it for $57.00 ebay

Good reliable motor but way under powered for an f150. My cousin has a 06 stx 4.6 2v with almost 200 on it. Like others said maintenance is key to keeping any truck running good and lasting.

The 4.6 has plenty of power for light hauling and winter driving.

Yes it does but it lacks power lol The 4.6 in my cousins 02 f150 extended cab he use to own feels like it had more power than my other cousins 06 f150 extended cab 4.6 truck. Of course both felt slow with my butt dyno compared to my 05 fx4 I had.

i have 275000 on my 5.4 3v with the 4r75. i have a cam phaser related problem and a small issue with my trans in 4th at 50 mph only under load.

the 4.6 2v is a detuned motor and lacks a lot of the features that fail on the larger motors. the trans are nearly bullet proof. my problem goes all the way back to the previous owner not servicing the trans fluid. change that every 40-60 k and youll be good.

Like you were told in the other thread you hijacked, you have a low grade misfire. Plugs and maybe COPs.

The 06 is heavier.

A 4.6 litre 2 valve motor doesn't have any spark plug issues. The 4.6 3 valve motor has the famous hard to get out spark plugs - same as the 3 valve 5.4 liter. Even so, any good mechanic can get them out pretty easily these days.

The 2 valve motors do occasionally blow a plug out, in spite of the later 8 thread heads.

The 4.6 3 valve in the F-150 has the later head design with conventional 1 piece plugs. Those don't stick and break.
