Tire Time

Alright, first things first, I apologize for being "that guy" but I've looked for a long time and can't find what I need to spend $1100 over the interwebs. I have a 2005 FX4 (stock 18s) with bilstein 5100s that I thought were supposed to level the truck but seem to be a bit shy (wondering if they're just set wrong and it should sit Level at its highest setting?). I'm looking at a 33.4" tire or a 34.25" (cooper st maxx). With the bilstein adjustable can I fit the 34.25" without an issue? I've had 305/65 on here with an AS level but I'm concerned about the bigger size with just the adjustable shocks.

Those Bilsteins are adjustable. What are the full dimensions of those Coopers? You shouldn't have a problem fitting them from a height standpoint, but if they're 305s or wider, you may rub the frame and/or UCAs.

Also, don't know what state you're in, but Discount Tire should be able to get you the best price on those Coopers, let you test fit one to see how it fits (but obviously you'll "own" the tire after this), and not be a sketchy online site with no returns.

295/70/18, I haven't been impressed with my BFGs at 275/70 and don't want to regret not going bigger again.

I don't see any issues with those fitting. May have to trim the valance a tad, but that's not a big deal and you can't tell.

Haha, just from the Bilstein website I can tell the dealer messed up when they installed them. I haven't been running a leveled F150 since I had my AS taken off almost 2 years ago. That being said, miraculously, I haven't had any issues with my suspension since then either (the AS messed my front up bad). So, probably why I'm paranoid from everything. I still haven't gotten any other responses or found anyone else that runs this combo (Cooper 295s) even though a lot run the Nittos. I'm really debating just saying screw it and getting the nittos instead.

What size was that AS?

If it's the same size, the tire brand doesn't matter. Nittos run larger than Coopers (I have Trail Grapplers and my 35s are bigger than Cooper 35s, both on F150s with 20" wheels), so if that size Nitto fits, Coopers definitely will.

I want to say it was only a 1.5" that I ran 315/65 BFGs on. The Trails are definitely taller but not wider according to manufacturer stats, wider is what worries me for the control arms. Is it worth it to pay $25 more per tire to change and go with the Nittos instead, knowing they're verified to fit already?

That's really odd, cause usually it takes at least a 2.5" to cause premature wear issues.

Mmm . . . you've gotta make that call. Trail Grapplers are usually taller and wider than other tires of the same size, but I saw you list the specs for the Coops in the other thread. I paid $400 extra for Trail Grapplers than STT's because I know they last for a very long time, so maybe it's worth it for fitment and tire life. But, every lifted truck (mostly diesels) owned by Discount Tire employees in my area all have Cooper STTs, for whatever that's worth. Knowing what I know now, I very easily could've gotten the Coopers. I don't think you can make a mistake with either, and the specs are so close.

Went with the ST maxx from Cooper -- so far they're awesome. I'll post pics later. They barely rub, and they look amazing.

Looks good! Those regular cab FX4s are pretty uncommon too, nice to see.

Thanks, have to do some body work since it's been through hell up in the Rockies. I have almost no power loss with these, and no gearing issues. The 5.4 is rock solid.

Rust issues I'm assuming? It looks pretty darn good from the pics.

My truck isn't all that bad either with the lift and 35s, and 3.55 gears. I thought the loss in power would be much worse than it was. But I worry about her, so she's getting 4.88s next week.
