Stainless Steel Brake Lines

Ok so I am in the market for new brake pads and rotors so I was thinking about doing stainless steel brakes lines while I replace everything.

now I did some research and I don't understand why these seem to be hard to find. Russell has them but it says three are included? Why don't I get four? Can anyone help me out here?

The Russell kit doesn't include the lines at the outside ends of the rear axle. I have this kit installed. Those lines normally only flex when you change brake pads or otherwise disassemble the system. It has both front and the single line to the distribution block near the center of the rear axle. I wish they had included all 5 lines.

do you know where I can get a kit that has 5 lines? I find it hard to believe that no one offers a kit for everything.

Sorry, no. Also wish I knew where to buy the outside rear lines separately.

How are there 5 lines when there are 4 brakes?

One line at each corner = 4.

The rear brake has a single line from the master cylinder going to a splitter that is attached to the top of the axle on the driver's side of the differential pumpkin. It also serves as the axle vent. That's the 5th line. The front two caliper lines and this 5th line are included in the Russell kit. Essentially you have one rear hydraulic brake line that gets split in two at the axle.

On another note, the rear ABS is rather primitive also. There is a single speed sensor in the differential. The computer thus only knows the average speed of the rear wheels, rather than each wheel's individual speed. It can also only activate ABS for the rear axle as a whole, as it does not have individual braking control over each rear wheel.

Apparently traction control became available on 2006 4x2 models. Unknown when 4x4 models got it. Traction control would require dual channel rear braking rather than single channel as on my truck. It would also then allow for true 4 wheel ABS. In this case, it would also require 6 brake hoses.

Firmer brake feel. It would be even better if all the lines were included.

No. There is already steel reinforcement in the traditional rubber lines.

Ah, I looked and no one makes the jumper line from axle to rear calliper. Suppose you could get them made at a hose shop.

Goodridge do a nice line set. That's where my money would go.

Apparently the Braided lines remove the pulse from the ABS pump? Never encountered that on any braided brake system av run.

yea I have goodridge on my weekend car and love them. I just want to try and find a system where I can get all 5 brake hoses. this seems stupid that no one offers them for a common truck.

I wouldn't say that, you still feel slight vibration in the pedal when ABS activates, which is a good thing IMO. I want to know that it's working.

Does anyone have a set of oem brake lines laying around? if I get them, I can have a local company make some custom ones.

so if anyone else is interested let me know because if I can source these lines then I can have them made and ill ship some out if anyone else is interested.

NA I don't have any spare but would be interested in SS jumper lines for sure.

If you get lines then pop a thread up.
