FX2 to Harley running board mod!!!
ok, well my friend recently took off my running boards, like EVERY other FX2 owner on here does....BUT, i actually like the running boards (and my short wife too), just not how low they hang...and they make my truck appear lower.
well anyways ive been saying im going to do this for a while now and finally went with it, i chopped out 2 inches from the mounts and rewelded them myself, it now hugs the rocker and flows evenly with the valance lip spoiler, and give it a "harley" like appearance.
youre either going to love it or hate it but ill let the pictures do the talking...
heres some before, during and after photos...
i dont mind criticism, say what you want!!
i like this truck to look as stock as possible, so everything you see is staying on!! LoL

thanks J, the only thing i get hung up on is my exhaust muffler and my control arm mounts bottom out on parking curbs, i've never hit the running boards ever!!
i do plan on some bigger wheels later on, im looking at some black 22" five spokes.
yes there is some wheel gap, my stock tires were shot and my buddy hooked me up with these low pro tires for cheap AND they lowered the truck another inch!!
the gap really isnttoo bad in person, the pics make it look more than it is, and my driveway is uneven...

Can't see why you would need them with it slammed. Would look 10x better without them. Now if it was lifted, that would be a cool mod. I just can't stand lowered trucks with running boards. The rest of your truck looks great. To each his own, just my opinion, and you you know what they say about opinions. lol

... the presence of the boards still there make the truck look lower than it'ld look without them ...
... and there's no denying that they save the lower sides from roadway debris.
I lowered my FX4 last year, not near as low as your FX2, but 2" frt and rear. No rubbing of curbs, etc, and the "wife unit" loves it for getting in and out and I never use the steps to enter but love the way they look and give the truck a lower look.
Now I'm gonna have to look at cutting some out of the brackets come warmer weather. Might not, but gonna look anyway.

well, the reason i still want them on is because my wife still uses them to get in the truck (she is short!), the valance flows right into them, i dont have to see the HUGE framerails anymore when i had them off AND, the only way i would take them off is if i also take off the valance lip spoiler thingy, but i like the front end too much on this truck!! LoL
i appreciate all the comments, positive and negative!!
i wish the frame wasnt so tall on these trucks cause i would take off the running boards and lip spoiler and be a few inches lower!!!

you are right, they secretly make the truck "appear" lower than it is....
and i wouldve looked into buying harley brackets but im on a tight budget so i had to do some fab work, that might be an option for you if you have the funds...
here was my inspiration...LoL
