Another red FX4 decal on red truck change.
I was driving through Walmart's lot recently and saw a local red F-250 FX4 with different decals, they stood out at least. I liked them. I talked to the driver who was walking towards the truck, found they were on ebay. He is an oldtime paint and body guy here. Said they were good quality.
So I ordered a set, I never did like the Red-Orange looking FX and Grey 4 decals on a bright RED truck...
... so today, I removed ...
... and installed ...
I like them! 3M "Controltac" decals. I found them on ebay sold by profileimage.
My stock ones were just a hair under 14" total length and 3.375" tall and these new ones are 15" long and 3.59" tall. Not as big as the stnd FX4 decals on a Styleside, but a little bit bigger than those Ford puts on the 6.5 foot Flareside. I found center of the decal and marked it at the top of the cover sheet, it's about center of the left upper leg of the X. The originals were centered under the forward screw of the rear most tie down and were found to be very near 5" below the lower edge of the bed rail cap.
To make the new ones look right and not crowded due to slightly larger size, I laid out a top edge with masking tape as a guide at 4" under the top rail and I chose to center them under the same forward screw, or more precisely 68.75 " from the front edge of the bed side.
Ignore the 70.25 measurement .... that was center of tie down and it didn't look near as "right" as under the screw.
Just waiting on that meat loaf to get done, Jeff Gordon won Pocano, maybe after supper we can go to DQ for a cone?
