Anyone use vent mounts?

Has anyone used vent mounts for a PDA on their F150s? I received a free Arkon one with a bluetooth GPS unit that I ordered. I've looked at Proclips, but damn, those things are expensive. Has anyone tried to use the Proclip vehicle mount and mod a cheaper mount to attach to it?

Thanks, and apologies for the newbie questions. Just getting into mods here...

I don't trust any type of vent clip.

Yeah, me neither. I love the Pro-clip, but am hesitant to spend $70 on a mounting system. I was thinking of fashioning something that could sit in the rubber tray on top. Only issue would be it sliding around, but it would seem that the rubber would work to hold it in place. And if I made it heavy enough...Any ideas?

Thanks a ton guys.

I'm thinking fashioning something to hold onto the PDA and sits in the rubber tray on top of the dash could work and preclude me from spending money on a clip. I'd love to be able to leave the PDA in it's magnesium case. The Proclip wont let me do that. Guess I could just try things out and see what works.

if you go the route of fashioning the PDA to the rubber tray, just make sure you fasten it down somehow. If it just sits up there if you slam on your brakes, it might go flying into the windshield then bounce off and end up on the floor somewhere. Or it might slam up against the windshield, slide across your dash and out the window if you ride with your windows rolled down.

I've found vent clips don't for phones worth a damn - especially the cheaper ones. I pulled the trigger on a Proclip system and just installed it last night. Hands down the best clip on mount I've ever used. Is it worth the money - maybe. I expensed it with my employer so it was definately worth it for me but I'm not sure I'd have apaid the $70 for it if it was coming out of my own pocket. T'is a solid piece though. Here are a few pics of my application.

Before - no mount

Mount installed - no BB

Mount installed - BB in cradle

Suppose we should stop talking about the bible too, since it's a 2000 year old dead book....

Not necessarily although a reply to Noah would probably go unanswered!
