My Options...

Well I am wanting to install some switches on my 06 FX4.
I was looking at doing 4 round switches in the panel with the cig. lighter.

I got it off this afternoon, and found this:

Close up of the back:

What do those connectors do?
They aren't plunged into anything on the back. It is just holding them in place. (I'm talking about the gray and green connectors)

(Just for reference, here is the front of it:
)

So my second thought was just to put them in the console, right here:

But this is what is under neath of it:

It looks like they are braces that go over to the cup holders. But it also could just be the mold. I don't know.

So now my question is, can I cut and file down either?
I'd like to do it in the shifter tray. But don't want to affect the structure of the cup holders. Or should I cut and file down the plug holders on the cig lighter pannle??

What do you guys think?
Thanks!

Those are just dummy plugs for options your truck isn't equipped with. I believe one is for reverse sensing. 2wd trucks have a coin holder with wires in the back of it where 4wd switch is on 4wd trucks.

If you dont use your ash tray, put them in there...theyre hidden too, which is nice.

4x4's with the floor shift transfer case have the same coin holder.

The panel plugs are for options like reverse-sonar sensors and traction control I believe, so you are free to use those locations for your switches. You can replace the coin holder with the 4WD switch from Ford and wire it for your lights as well.
