So glad I found this post! My truck did this exact same thing last night. It died on the freeway, and when I tried to crank it, it would just keep cranking. How do you test the module? The code was p0191..fuel rail system.

Glad you found us, hope this solves your problem. This link is in the Articles and How To section. You can also use the Advanced Search button above to find more discussion of the problem and fix.

As far as I know, your best way to check it is to remove it and visually look for corrosion or cracks. Dorman now makes a replacement sold at parts stores that is an option over buying one at a dealer.

thank you guys! switched out the module And pump (i wanted to try just the module first, but you know how that goes...) so one or both were bad. BUT, sometimes when I start it, it continues to try to start on its own. Do you know why it would do that? not every time, just kind of sporadic

Dawn .... you just hear it for a second or so like overlapping with the engine starting correct? It maybe seems longer as it doesn't stop starter just by turning key back to run like older vehicles do. It's holding the starter in until it knows she's started.
I know that often with my older vehicles I anticipate that they are gonna start because I just am so used to them, and sometimes I let go just at that last seconnd before they actually are running but they still start. My '07 sometimes seems to hold the starter in longer but it doesn't anticipate, it releases when she's actually started.

Only 08+ do that.
Like he said, page 238 of the 2007 owner's guide:
This vehicle has a computer assisted cranking system which assists in starting the engine. If the ignition key is turned to 4 (START) and then released when the engine begins cranking, the engine may continue cranking for up to 10 seconds or until the vehicle starts.
