I tried searching with no luck..

I need to top-off my coolant cuz its low, but the people at autozone never heard of the Ford gold coolant and just told me to use the Prestone 50/50 mix that is supposedly safe for all vehicle makes. Its green (if the color really matters), but will it be safe to add???

 

I would not add prestone to it..your coolant is a yellow type not the green type..you will prob have to go to ford to get it...I think its around 13 bucks at ford.

 

X2, if it came with the gold coolant stick with it.

 

Yup, stick with the MotorCraft Gold it is not expensive at all.....

I am the Technical Manager at Prestone. You can safely top off your Ford vehicle with our long life 50/50 coolant. Ford actually did an advertising campaign saying our coolant was incompatible with Ford Gold, when we faced off, they spec we did not meet was the color, yes dye. Our coolant WILL not change the color of your factory fill when added in concentrations of less than 25%. Being a 2004, your overdue for a drain and refill anyway. It's still not recommended that you mix coolants. If you want to use Prestone, I'd flush it first. Nothing wrong with Prestone.

 

funny why people pay for 50/50. water is free

 

I partially agree, distilled water costs a dollar or two and is what you should be using, not tap water. Either way, 50/50 mix should only be bought be those who need it in an emergency with no access to water, or those who don't have the proper equipment to test the antifreeze to determine the mixture.

 

NEVER ever use green coolant in gold fill.

Why?

The radiator type is made from different materials! When you put the green coolant in the radiator it literally acts as an acid to the radiator and it will leak. Plus if there is any bit of residue from the gold coolant, it will cause even more damage.

The Motorcraft Premimum Gold Engine Coolant is Zerex G-05, I am told. Acording to Valvoline's Zerex G-05 product page, The G-05 "Utilizes hybrid Organic Acid Technology to minimize inhibitor depletion" and is a "Low-Silicate, Low-pH and phosphate-free formula" it is virgin ethylene glycol based, it comes in concentrate and Ready-to-use (premixed) packages. It meets Ford WSS-M97B51-A1 spec. Behind the MSDS/Product Info section menu, there are GREAT detail specs for this product.

An extended life coolant will cause injector and water pump seal deterioration, by reacting with some brass compounds and some silicon-based seal materials. Coolant must meet ESE-M99B44-A spec ON V8 MOTORS BUILT BEFORE Feb. 2, 1999. After that date, Texaco ELC Ethylene Glycol colored raspbery red (Organic Acid Technology) is OK for up to 150k miles, 30 months, then add extender to get another 150k, 30 months.

Ford also does not recommend nor endorse Propylene glycol based coolants, although it says warranty is not automatically voided upon the use of a coolant made with propylene glycol, if such use results in damage to the vehicle or its components, the cost of repair will not be covered by warranty. Aren't you the same guy that tried to sell us on the myth that the "Orange Can Of Death" Fram filters were just peachy. Yep, same guy, still marketing that Honeywell (Honeywagon) snake oil I see. Thought we got rid of you once. Why don't you go to the swap meet and sell that Honeywell snake oil?

He seems to go through jobs rather quickly. Infact about a week ago he was the Techinical Manager at Autolite. Last November he was the Technical Manager at Fram too.

 

My question is why is it low? Do you have a leak?

 

Does anyone have a write up on a flush and fill on our trucks?
