rear backup warning system failure

recently my backup warning system has failed. It now goes off no matter what as soon as I put it in reverse it starts beeping even though there is nothing behind me. I tried cleaning them and that didn't work wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what it might be?

Spoke to a fella the other day about his on his F250. They get water inside of them and short out or corrode out.

You need to get new ones.

I don't remember if it's on this board or one of the others. But someone chased the failure on their truck to a corroded connector located near the transmission.

I think the general rule is you need to clearn up each and every connector in the reverse sensor harness to reduce (not eliminate) this problem. Apparently you can listen for a clicking or other noise out of each sensor, to help narrow down which one is the problem. I've not tried this yet on my 07. Mine typically just doesn't work, so no annoying beeping.

If you need to buy new sensors, ebay seems to be the lowest cost. Just make sure you get the right part number sensor.

Backup Sensors

Mine just started doing this on Christmas Day. Waiting for a callback from the service dept right now as my warranty is good through 1/3/10.

Where do you live? Cold weather (below freezing) plays havoc with these systems....exhaust vapor on cold days can trigger the sensors, if you have recently washed the truck frozen water glazes over the sensors, or if it is really cold, the water vapor from the exhaust will frost over the passenger side of the rear bumper blocking the sensor.
