you guys that rely on the keypad are gonna get it one day when your battery is dead or the contacts in the keypad decide to stop working.

and to the guy who has a spare 1200miles away; that is presicely why every time i go on vacation or anywhere far away i have a spare key, programmed and ****ional to start the truck. these fancy chip keys are a great security feature but when it somehow gets cracked or destroyed id like to be able to get home with out a tow truck.

I've locked mine inside 2 times with an aftermarket security system. The doors sued to auto lock 3 seconds after the ignition was turned to on.

First time I was in a parking lot 6 blocks from the deal where I bought it with the engine running, luckily I was at a gas station and had just finished filling the tank so I wasn't too worried about running out of gas even though it took them 30 minutes to bring me a blank they had cut.

Second time was after I got hit by some really old woman, I got out to check on her afterward and the doors locked behind me. Both of the cops that came after we called it in were laughing at me, made me feel kinda stupid for it.

1 week later I took it back to the place that installed the system and had them disable the auto lock feature.

I left my dogs inside my truck at a gas station 100 miles from my house, keys hanging in the ignition, and one of my dogs locked the doors.

Your just lucky he didn't put it in gear, and drive home without you

Personally, I don't like the looks of those keypads, and I'd never use one if I had it anyway, because my alarm remote unlocks my doors before I even get to my truck, and if I want it to, it will start the truck before I get in it, also.

I carry a spare (non-chipped) key in my wallet, so if I should ever lock the keys in my truck, I can open the door with the key in my wallet, to get to my chipped key inside. Never had to use it, but I bet if I didn't have one, I'd have locked myself out 5 X's by now

Yea I love my keyless pad too. Had my truck almost two years and just realized you can also hit (7-8),(9-0) and lock all the doors with no code required or after entering your code press (3-4) and unlock all doors.

If you lock your keys in the truck and you have a spare set at home with someone there do this. Have them hold the spare fob up to the phone and hold your cell near the door lock. Have them press the unlock button and your doors become unlocked!

When my truck is running (and the door is open) the system will NOT allow you to lock the doors on my FX4 (it will instanly unlock)

Yeah, but the engine wasn't running. I pulled in and stopped the truck, took the keys out of the ignition and got out of the truck, then realized that the pump was broken. I got back in, moved to another pump, shut off the truck, and left the keys in the ignition. I will say that Corgi's are really smart dogs though, and I would not put it past them.

As far as the battery dying, my truck has two 1000 CCA batteries. If they both die, I will have a much bigger problem than keys locked in my truck!

Yeah I like the my keypad too, Its good for when you're at the park or somewhere where it takes a good 15 to 20 minutes to get to the truck and then when you get there you realize your wife has the keys it saves you that long walk back and forth

The keypad is definitely a life saver. I've always had one on my last 5 cars (all fords of course). Last year my wife called me at work screaming and freaking out that our 3 year old daughter was locked inside her Expedition with the car running. As she called me she was about to throw a brick through the passenger side window. I calmly asked, "Did you try the keypad?" She quietly said "Keypad? Ohhhh yeah, I forgot about that. What's the code?"

Done deal, catastrophe averted.

I've had plenty of dead batteries, but never one so dead that the key fob or keypad didn't work.

Plus, I mounted a safe in my center console, so I lock my keys and wallet inside the safe, then lock my doors and don't have to carry anything!
