My 2005 DSG FX4 after 1 Year of Ownership

I just got married on the 24th of October and got to thinking this week after I got back from my honeymoon that next week will be a full year of having my truck. I bought it November 15th of last year with 29k miles on it nearly stock for a tad under 18k. Now that I've had a year and almost 20k more miles under its belt, here are my observations:

This has so far been the most reliable vehicle I've owned. I've done VERY little maintenance thus far and most of the expenses, actually all, have been due to the mod bug that I have with every vehicle I own.

The only maintenance that I've done:
- Fuel filter (pretty sure stock one was still in there)
- All 4 brakes (shot)
- Battery (stock one finally gave out)
- Windshield wipers (duh)
- Alignment (leveling kit and tires fault)

I've also been very pleased with how easy these trucks are to work on. Of all the mods I am listing, the only ones I haven't done or installed myself are the wheels, tires, and alignment. Everything else was done by me 100%

Mod List in a mere 365 days:
- ProComp 17x9 1079 wheels w/ 4.75" backspacing
- 35x12.50x17 ProComp Xtreme Mud Terrains
- AS 2" leveling kit
- Roush Off Road Exhaust
- Magnaflow 94106 high flow cats x2
- S&B Intake
- Custom dyno tune via HP Tuners laptop software
- Blacked out headlights
- Roush Billet Grille
- 6000k HID's in headlights and foglights
- Herculiner bedliner
- Weathertech floormats
- Lariat leather center console lid
- JVC KW-NT1 Nav unit w/ bluetooth and XM radio
- 2008 tailgate handle w/ ebay backup camera mounted
- Rockford Fosgate 5x7 components in front and rear doors
- 10" Kicker CVT sub in custom built box in factory sub location
- 2 Kicker amps 300x1 for sub and 75x4 for Components
- LED's in dome lights all through interior and rear license plate lights
- Code Alarm SRT-9000 alarm/remote start
- Custom license plate (nickname given to me at a shop I worked at)

So all in all a pretty good list I think in a year. The only future mods I plan on are a Leer 800 tonneau cover and bedrug and possibly a Gryphon tuner as the tune on it now isn't quite as good as I would like.

All of these pictures were taken during and after a 7 hour detail session my detailing partner and I did to the truck a few days before I got married. The truck was our getaway vehicle so it had to look perfect

Enjoy!

Congrats on one year of ownership of your 05. I had my 05 4 years and one days as of today bouht mine November 5th 2005. So far the only problem I had is the drivers side power window regulator had to be replaced. Otherwise just normal routine items like tires brakepads oil changes ect.

No the tailgate handle is a Ford OEM part off of the 2008 model F-150 which was offered with the backup camera from the factory. The handle is around 60-70 bucks depending on what dealer you use. Then I measured the camera opening and found an Ebay camera that was the same diameter to use for about 30 bucks. The Ford camera is about 200+ dollars alone and that wasn't just worth it to me. The ebay camera is well worth it.

The screen is my JVC Navigation deck that has the backup camera port option on it. It is wired in such a way like a factory vehicle that when you put the turck in reverse, the camera switches on and the screen switches to the camera view.

Here is a picture of what it looks like when you put the truck in reverse

Truck looks super clean! But my question is do your tires rub like crazy? 4.75" backspacing rim with 35" mud terrains is unheard of for just a 2" leveling kit. Hell I have 35" muds with 5.4" of backspacing and mine rubbed before trimming...with a 6" suspension lift...

Always loved your exhaust since the vids... nice truck for sure and congrats on getting hitched. Btw my maggie is a bit quieter than the roush off road with/out hi flows. How much of a gain did you notice in sound and deepness? I don't want it to be overbearing, but deeper and louder outside would be perfect.

very nice truck. do you regret getting 35s instead of 33s? ive always heard 35s make it downshift and search for gears, and be sluggish. ect.

what are your front windows tinted to? do you have a center console or column shift?

the 5.4 with a tuner and 35's should be fine. my 4.6 w/ 35's barely downshifted on its own once i tuned it

Thanks for all the comments and compliments so far guys!

1. I have ZERO rubbing with the backspacing and wheels I have now. The 35's I have heard them rub once and that was backing down out of a really steep driveway at full lock turn. Other than that, never a sound.

2. I don't regret 35's for a second. With the proper tuning its not really an issue. It doesn't hunt for gears or do anything odd like that.

3. Center console shifter, hence the Lariat leather console cover modification

4. Factory tint all the way around on the truck. I haven't changed a thing to the windows. I have looked several times and it is the tint of the glass. There is no aftermarket film of any kind on any of the windows.

5. The hi-flows really woke up the truck in sound. I would say a good 30-40% louder at least with the addition of the cats. But I still have zero drone and its still almost silent going down the freeway. I was always a bit disappointed in the factory sound of the Roush Exhaust and the cats REALLY perked it up.
