I love this setup it has been awesome! Since this pic I wrapped the mount under it with black speaker carpeting and it looks better but you get the idea I also keep the microphone turned around now so that the cord sits on the dash

knee never gets close to the radio. cord sits on my leg but I ignore it. Might bother others but I got really good at ignoring back when I was married.

I will get some pictures tomorrow when I get home from college, but mine is on the passenger side of center shifter console thing. Its hard to explain with out pictures,it is out of the way, but you can't put the passenger seat all the way forward. Which is really no big deal cause when someone rides with me its back all the way anyways.

Pic back from the days of my 2001 F150 Screw, and when I utilized CB radio.

Now I run a Ham Radio in the 04, better than CB?? Not sure yet...but I think yes.

what's the minimum requirements (FCC) for that ham setup? CB radio just don't have the traffic it had a few years back.

Minimum is technician license which I currently hold. Allows you to access anything above 50 Mhz if I remember correctly and just a little bit of the 10 meter band.

I passed my test in March of 07, love it so far, everyone is really nice and the ham radio bunch is a self policing group who corrects each other when mistakes are made and no offense is taken by it.

Here is a good place for information. I bought the tech book and read it in a week, then took the test two weeks later at a local VE (volunteer examiner) session.

EDIT: Oh yeah and the test is $14 and I think it is good for something like 10 years

Hope that helps.

Here is the site for the ARRL. Has alot of info on ham radio licencing and such. I have been a Ham since 1996. I started out with a Technician licence and then upgraded to the Tech plus to get the 10 meter band privaliges, Had to comprehend 5WPM of morse code. This has since been removed from the testing, and no morse code is required for any licence. For just talking localy it is similar to cb radio. When you get into HF rigs you can talk around the world. My father has one and I used it alot before I got married and moved out. We had a homemade dipole antenna and a directional beam mounted on a 75' tower with a rotator off of the garage.

I have my ham radio mounted in the truck on an adjustable mount. Picked it up for about 10 shipped on e-bay

I have a glass mount antenna, sorry it is hard to see with the snow coming down. We are in the process of getting about 10". I have had this antenna for a long time and would not recomend it on this truck, it mounts lower on the window due to the thick trim on the inside. On the outside it is about 3" below the top edge of the window and really effects reception and gives a higher SWR. I am going to be looking into a lip mounted antenna on the hood or a low profile antenna mounted on the roof in the spring.

Ok - I feel really stupid asking this question, but am I totally missing out on something here?? What is the purpose of having a cb in your truck? Is it mostly for the PA purposes?? I have a handheld scanner from radio shack that I can pick up police/emergency/weather/private bands and whatnot, how does a cb compare to that?? Sorry for the ignorant questions but I honestly don't know!!
