Scenario: Going to pick up my daughter and unsure of speed, (I THINK when it hit the overdrive gear) and all of a sudden I hear/feel a slight clunk. Right when this happened that little wrench idiot light came on and I had idle, but pushing gas pedal didn't do anything.
Pull into p-lot and put in park. Idles fine, switch into reverse it goes into reverse but pushing the gas has no effect. Same in D.
Turn truck off,,,,no tranny fluid dripping thank God. Turn it back on and light is out and everything functioning normally. turned OD off just in case and came home.
*Side note* My buddy's diesel 250 was acting funny as well and had a similar problem. He wanted to blame it on the computer,,not it,,,wanted to blame it on the chip,,not the problem. He says that all along it was the connections at the battery. Cleaned them up and his truck hasn't had that problem ever again.
Anyone else ever have this problem????? Now I'm worried. Hoping it's just the battery connections.

I was hoping that it wasn't just me,,,someone else has had this happen to them somewhere. I gave you every bit of info that I had sir. Sorry. Time to call Ford tomorrow I guess.
my dad's lincoln just did something very similar a couple days ago. Dealer ended up changing a couple coils and plugs. I've heard faulty injectors and bad trottle position sensors doing these same things. Codes will diffently shorten the list though.
my wrench light comes on on cold mornings. it goes away when i restart the truck. mine is not accompanied by any noises or anything and never yielded an error code. i just learned to live with it although i would like to know what it is... it sounds to me that your problem maybe different.
i think i heard someone say that the wrench light indicates a problem with the drive by wire system, but cant be sure...
Good ole Google,,found OBD trouble codes and copied them to a new Word Doc. Will print them up and bring them w/me when I hit my "hook up" at Tire Kingdom for use of his scanner.
My 05 SuperCab did something terribly similar on the freeway on my way to work a while back. No check engine light came on until that evening when I cranked it up to go home. It yielded the P2106 code by itself. More on that can be found here. P2106 code?
One free trip to my local mechanic, PLUS a trip to the dealership for their $130 diagnostic fee later, we determined that I should replace the throttle body. Of course the dealership wanted to do that, as well as replace the fuel filter, flush the fuel system, AND clean up the EGR valve. They pulled a second indeterminate generic diagnostic code also. They wanted $900+ for the job. I replaced the fuel filter myself. Ford Direct Online had the throttle body for about $185 (compared with $265 from the stealership). My mechanic said he'll do the install and flush the fuel system for $150.
Here's the kicker. The dealership pressured me (of course) to get the entire job done that day if not sooner. When I declined, they told me that the wrench light and check engine lights would stay on and the truck would probably be immobile. I asked them to finish the oil change and prep the truck for me to pick it up that evening. When I picked it up, it drove like brand new. No warning lights, no hesitation, nothing. That was 3 weeks ago.
Since then, I've cleaned up my battery lines. The negative cable had about a palmful of corrosion that cleaned up really nicely. I also swapped out the fuel filter. I am a totally mechanically uninclined amateur, and I can only work on the truck in the spare time between my 2 jobs, so I'm currently in the process of cleaning the intake ducts and filter housing to work my way to the throttle body. Depending on what I find when I get there, I may or may not replace it entirely. I'll have to see.
But, like I said, the truck is running PERFECTLY. I'm no mechanic, but you better believe that I'm listening and feeling every time I get on the freeway for abnormalities. NOTHING. So here's my take. Let it ride. See when or if it happens again. Check out the P2106 post and it will probably confirm the possibilities. But your truck may be fine. I'm a computers guy and sometimes, they just glitch up. Sometimes all they need is a good once-over and a couple of Ctrl-Alt-Del strokes. Keep us up to date, and I'll do my best to do the same. Best of luck.
Thnx sir,,,I feel a little better now. Like I said, my friends diesel was doing something similar to yours and mine and once he cleaned the battery terminals (to where the lead was almost shining) he has not had problem one w/his. It just un-nerving wondering if it's ever going to happen again. NO VEHICLE that I have ever owned has left me stranded and I really want peace of mind when I get in my truck or Exploder. **Went and read the link you posted up,,good info within that 3 pages.** Thnx again.
W/almost 70K miles and just picking up the vehicle I will do some preventive maintenance so I will fell better.
1) Clean battery terminals
2) Oil change
3) Fuel filter change
4) Front/Rear gear lube change
5) Tranny flush.
