I just noticed this the other day on mine, because of snow on the ground the reverse lights throw off enough light to cause the mirrors to dim. Makes it hard to back up. I wish it would turn off when the truck is in reverse.

My wifes explorer had a button on the rear veiw mirror to turn it off, but on these trucks, the only way is to cover up the sensor with black electrical tape. Look on the bottom edge of the rear veiw mirror housing, there is a little hole there and that is the sensor.

The sensor is on your rear view mirror and you can block it with something or tint your back window extremely dark

I've done that just for S's & G's... it causes the mirror to dim to their darkest... don't know why.

If you are talking about the rear veiw mirror, mine has a button that says auto. I push it and the green light goes off and turns the dimmer off.

X2. Although I think I have only turned it off once just to see what happened, otherwise I have never had a need to turn it off.

Page 111 owners manual says the mirrors will automatically return to the normal state whenever the vehicle is placed in reverse to ensure a bright clear view when backing up.Ill have to go see the dealer and find out way this isnt working.

What the manual doesn't mention is it takes a couple minutes for the mirrors to return to the normal state. Don't waste your time with the dealer. I talked with 2 local dealers and they said, unfortunately, it's normal.

Mt '04 has the auto button and I can shut it off easily. I wonder what year they changed the rear view mirror.
