2008 Fuel Tank

Hello, I just found this site and have been enjoying all the info. I just got a 2008 FX4 Super Crew with the 5.5 bed. I have been trying to find out what size fuel tank it has. Reading the owners manual it should be a 30 gallon tank. I have filled it up 2 times now, with the guage down close to the red mark at empty, and it only held around 23 gallons. The low fuel light has not been on either time, but with the truck being new to me, I was afraid to take it any lower. My question is how much gas is left when the light finally comes on, and any ideas on the size of the tank? Thanks for any info you can give, and I enjoy all the information that this site provides.

Are you sure that you have the 30 gallon tank? I believe they also came with 26 or 27. Also, when the gauges tell me I'm low on fuel, I have a few gallons left in there.

No, I am not sure its a 30 gallon tank, but reading the owners manual, it sounds like it should be, but I dont think that it is.

Do you still have the original window sticker from your truck? Should say it on there, mine does.

If your low fuel light didn't come on, chances are you still had several gallons left. Normally if my low fuel warning comes on (estimated 50 miles to E), I can fit 25 gallons in it. I have driven it down to where the display reads "0 miles to Empty" and have gotten as much as 27 gallons in it. I'm normally right around 400 miles to a tank mostly city driving (15.5mpg hand calculated).

Mine is a 30 gallon tank as well. If I run it down to when I get the "Low Fuel" message, typically I get only about 22-23 gallons in it. Better early than late though!

Copy and paste this: http://services.forddirect.fordvehic...icker.pdf?vin= into you browser's address bar. At the end of it put your truck's VIN. This will pull up to original factory Window Sticker. It will tell you on there what fuel tank you have.

For mine it says that the base model of my truck has the 27 gallon tank. On the right hand side though it shows that I have the 35.7 Gallon tank added on as a factory option.

yeah the supercrew short bed has the 30 gal. tank and the supercrew 6.5 bed has the 27 gal tank. i dont get why ford did this......i wish i had an extra 3 gallon capacity...heck i really wish i had the 35 gallon tank. pulling the boat to the lake would be a heck of a lot easier not having to stop for gas. i wonder if i could retrofit it...

I have the 27 gallon tank. Every time I fill up my wife's car (Hyundai Tucson...shudder) it gets like 14 gallons in it and then it's full, and I stand there in disbelief like "Come on, seriously? How the hell is it already overflowing???"

I could not get the link to work. I did find the window sticker, it says its a 30 gallon tank. I guess the gauge just reads a little lower than it really is. When the low fuel light comes on, can I trust that I still have at least 2 gallons?

Yeah, but stop at the next gas station you see.

I've driven 30 miles with my low fuel light on and still had plenty of gas left. I think mine turns on somewhere around 3-5 gallons left. All I know is that when it does The needle is already on E. If I run it down to just fumes the needle drops below E.

I have a bad habit of running down until the light comes on because 1 tank of gas can last me over a week usually and I forget to fill it up. Then when it needs a full tank I spend 20+ minutes at the pump. At the gas station where I usually stop they are always impressed that I somehow got over 100 bucks of gas into it.

The low-fuel light and the gas gauge are calibrated to make you think you have less gas than you really do. It's a safegaurd to keep you from running the tank (and the fuel pump) dry. The display in my Lariat always says "50 miles to E"when the low fuel light is triggered.
