Thumbs up Road trip fuel mileage

Went on a road trip to Chicago, total trip one way was 367.7 miles.

Fuel mileage was as follows....hand calculated

------------ Miles -- Gallons -- MPG
1st fuel up -- 177.5 -- 9.5 -- 18.6
2nd fuel up -- 190.2 -- 11.1 -- 17.1

On the way back home....

------------ Miles -- Gallons -- MPG
1st fuel up - - 191.2 -- 10.2 -- 18.7
2nd fuel up - - 178.8 -- 9.3 -- 19.2

Overall I am very happy with the mileage I got, I had too be a little over 3 tons with people and cargo. Had the cruise set at 67-70 the whole way expect when I ran into construction on the way there, hence the 2nd fuel up mileage only broke 17mpg mark. I could have made it there all in one tank but we stopped to eat so I decided to fill the tank up when we stopped.

I filled up for $3.92-$3.98 in Wisconsin, and it was $4.25 in Chicago. Also the Lowest I saw diesel was 4.79 and up to 5.09 at a Marathon in Illinois

I think I did pretty good, it was more then I was expecting.....just wanted to share

Were you running with a tail wind and going down hill?

No tail wind, Direction of travel is E to SE on the way out and W to NW and the way back....on the way out the wind was out of the NNE and today on the way back its out of the NNW, Wisconsin is fairy hilly with a couple of good grades that are about 1 mile long, with cruise control set it does not let you gain speed down hill.

Your results will make some other F150 owners drool with envy (like myself).

Are there any tips you want to share how to get fuel economy while towing?

I forgot to add that before I left I got the oil changed with Motorcraft Synthetic 5w20 and Filter,I changed the air filter also...it was some what dirty but not horrible but after almost two years I wanted to do it...picked it up at the local dealer for 18.99.

I had All four tires inflated at 37 PSI.

AC was on all the time set at #1 blower speed, recirculation mode and Max ac.

I was going to do the Fuel filter also but I believe it is not recommend until till 20,000 miles....I know it says in the manual but does any one know off the top of there head?

Your mileage matches mine. I can drop 10 MPH and gain another mile or two per gallon but riding the interstate at 60MPH sure makes a long day.

It never hurts to change the fuel filter except if you have to pay someone to do it.

Thats good and very belieavable, I took a 1700+ mile road trip and i avg 17-18 from FL to Virginia and about 13 or less on the way back. BIG differents in milege when you do 75-85mph on the way up and on the way back I was cruising 90-120 through both GA n FL with a BMW 335i and a Scion TC talk about drinking $4 a gallon quickly.
