2004 scab 4x4 80k miles

had a rough idle for a while, it also idled at really low RPMs. the edge didnt fix it. finally got troyer tunes and mentioned to him that i wanted it to idle a little quicker, its been perfect since.

a custom tuning specialist can fix all of these problem, and write specific tunes to improve fuel economy.

im averaging 13.8 around town and almost 18 on the interstate. K&N CAI, Flowmaster duals, Troyer 87 tune.

I've got the 2005 4.6 with around 58k miles. im averaging around 13-18 with a driving style of about 4 or so. i had a rough idle for a few weeks and i got the fuel filter replaced as well as plugs and it fixed it. if its sitting around idling for more then 15 min then it gets a bit rough but nothing that i find weird.

Ok, I'll bite...

98 F150 4.6, rough idle, 15 mpg
01 F150 5.4, rough idle, 14 mpg
03 F150 4.6, rough idle, 15 mpg
04 Expedition 5.4, rough idle, 14 mpg
07 F150 5.4, rough idle, 16 mpg

Unfortunately, rough idles with the Modular motor is common. Dealers, at least in my area, all say it's normal and there's nothing you can do. I'm going to see what I can learn using my autotap software, but not going to worry much about it.

So, where are we going with this list?

Im not biting on the modular motor idles rough thing, Ive been servicing Crown vics 4.6 since 94 when they came out, only a couple of about 50 cars ever had coffee cup shaking idle. The truck seems like secondary ign issue, but evidently it is "normal". We have a few vans and some F250 at work I will have to make a point to check them for this shaky idle.

Really? .. you felt the difference in a oil change? That must be one accurate ***-o-meter you've got.

Wow. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one getting crappy fuel economy. I don't remember if my truck idled rough before or not but it idles just fine with my Troyer tune. Mostly idling at 650.

What milage are you getting with 87 octane (regular) and no edge? Because isn't putting your Edge on lvl 3 and using 94 octane (premium) to get better milage pointless? Your spending more money to use 94 and it's on lvl 3 so obviously your going to be using more fuel then lvl 2.

13-15 Without Edge. That was also before winter fuel and the gas station that I normally just started using a 10% Ethanol Blend. Also at first it was hard to keep my foot out of it. I have seen people on here that use Level 3 and are getting 17-18mpg.

On a scale of 1 - 10 for driving habits, I would rate myself as a 3. very conservative. I am averaging 16-17 mpg in mixed driving.

For truck info look at the sig.
Oxlander - I looked at my Edge manual last night and it doesn't say anything about the idle RPMs in the custom settings. How do you change this?

Thanks

EDIT: nevermind... I found this posting https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=315577
I guess its in the custom settings but they just don't talk about it in the manual? I'll try it after work today.

that is not so unusual really, and without even using funky oils, just a fresh change of good oil can really make a diff in a lot of vehicles.

Were you able to get your idle adjusted? Did it smooth out your rough idle issue?
