Any one ever notice...?

Has anyone ever notice that while your truck is warming up, that at at temp of like 150-170ish that is runs stronger. I was wonder if you were to change out the thermo stat would it bring the temps down? And then you could run at those lower temps were the truck runs stronger? If im not mistaking i think I.Ride.Suzuki. suggested using the 4.6 thermo stat.

There are a couple options.

4.6 3v mustang opens @ ~175-182F

5.4 4v cobra opens @ ~176-184F

I will have to check into it but idle air multipliers may still stay active and keep trying to warm up the engine, i am not sure if there lockout or time delay off but i will look into it.

For sure. I am going to buy the cobra t-stat and some new-new plugs to see what they look like. With emmission laws it seems it was easier for ford to pass emissions at 192F.

/edit.damnit: you can't even get the new-new plugs, no one has them and order quanity is 96 * dealer cost =

do you have an aftermarket guage to actually see the different temps?

No. When I said I didn't see any difference, I was referring to idle or performance. I did some research on this and it looks like the "L" guys saw a difference when they went to the 160. I didn't want to make that drastic of a change. I was basically trying to combat the extra heat generated by the supercharger.

yeah its just a slight change so it would be hard to notice a performance difference, that and these stock guages are basically just like an idiot light it will just stay in the middle untill you get to around 240-250 then it pegs the stock guage

140* wow..... suzuki what about restrictors?

2 situations, both monitored by the edge programmer:

cylinder head temp @ 190 degrees
outside air temp @ 88 degrees
intake air temp @ 94 degrees
and the truck ran sluggish

cylinder head temp @ 190 degrees
outside air temp @ 38 degrees
intake air temp @ 40 degrees
the truck ran as crisp as when its first started in the morning.

you can derive the water temp from the cylinder head temp, but i see the air temp as the factor.

and for everyone whos against a closed box system, i ran my volant with the top off and on and it ran an average of 12-14 degrees hotter with the top off.

didn't mean to hi-jack the thread, just givin you guys more information to play with.

Are emissions the only reason we run at 190?
