To TQ or not TQ? That is the 2WD Question.

So,

I've been doing a lot of research (i.e. search) on the subject and it appears there's so much confusion over this.

Do the 2WD F-150 models come with torque management of some kind? By this I mean an actual technique that works as a traction control device? Many vehicles come with "traction control", but all it does is detects excessive wheel motion during heavy acceleration and retards timing/cuts back fuel. We've seen numerous threads discussing T/C as an option on the F-150, but not the standard.

Additionally, if we do have some sort of torque management/TC that prevents traction issues:
  1. How does one turn it off (what's the register value in the tune?)
  2. Which programmers can handle this change?

The reason why I ask is that I've got well over 362 RWHP/396 RWTQ and I still can't get the friggin' tires to spin. The Roushcharger kicks in and it sounds like something is retarding the timing.

Not that I'm complaining too loudly. I can dip into the low 14's consistently. It's just that I'm wondering if the truck would dip even lower with a little breathing room. With 275/55R20 Toyo Proxies, I'm sure they'll handle the power.

It looks just like any other Roush F-150 Sport, minus all the heavy spoilers and other piggy body molding.

By pics, you mean roasting tires? If not, let me dig into my archive and post some up.

Roushcharger with custom tune. That's it.

The Roush tune is paltry (pretty obvious considering the warranty). Leaning it up adds over 20 RWHP right off the bat. But caution is in order. My lifters are ticking a little at 31000 miles, so I may back it off to keep the Grim Reaper away.

It is funny, but many people don't know that the SOHC 24 Valve Triton's come with hydraulic roller lifters.

Seriously folks, help a brother out. Any ideas on the TQ/Traction control? This seems to be an "X Files" mystery here.

what year is your truck? I had read in a Ford F-150 brochure that the 07+ Lariats had a traction control system as well

if they do, its probably the same thing as my Mustangs TC. it cuts the spark and occasionally I've felt brakes pulsating if it's serious wheelspin

Mine's an '05. I know what you mean by the Mustang T/C. I had a Terminator and it had a T/C off switch. This F-150 doesn't.

I am surprised that you claim you can't roast them.
I have Roush Supercharged '04 F150 Supercrew 4x4 running 35" tall tires and can roast them at will...I am only making 330/370.....

These trucks have traction control and it can be turned off. I have a drag racing tune with it turned off. My tuner did it with the X Cal 2. However, I use another tune with traction control on and I'm able to light-up my heavy all-terrain tires. They spin to a certain extent and then the spinning stops abruptly. I think that's the traction control kicking in stopping the spinning. You shouldn't be having problems with it spinning initially with the lighter Toyo's. By the way, I'm going to them soon, but with 22s.

OP.

Stock, torque management, is quite invasive. I can also imagine that a conservative Roush tune would be similar to protect the drivetrain.

The 05's have no traction control.

Your best bet, is to post is in the Chips forum (where we do have a couple of SCT dealers participate and may see this and answer), and/or give one of the reputable aftermarket tuners who are also adept at Roush re-tuning a call & discuss.

You may want to just dump the Roush tune and get a better one.

Have you seen this? --> http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i...rformance.html

In that article, TQ management changes are discussed, and note the very last part about the boost dump modifications - look at the final gains....

Good luck!
