'04 owners how's your truck holding up?

Now granted, it'd be an antique and not beholding for emissions testing, but such an old truck would nickel and dime you to DEATH!!!

Newbie 04 owner
Been an owner since March. I'm making some repairs and I was seeing if I could get some assistance on what the next step would be. Here's a rough timeline on whats going on:
3/16 Got the Truck with a P0012 code. Would run rough at 45-50 mph but would smooth out.
Occasionally a lean code appeared but disappeared when I used fuel injector cleaner.
4/16 Changed oil/filter to synthetic. Starting getting random codes(misfiring, lean, catalytic converter) Afterwards started idling extremely low, occasionally cutting off when I made a stop.
5/16 Changed the VCT solenoids. Engine dies at stop/slow turn.
9/16 Changed spark plugs/coil boots. Rough idle at 45-50 disappeared. Still dies a stop/slow turn.
Any advice would greatly appreciated.

Hawk, my brother, why in hell are you looking for a THIRTY SEVEN year old truck? I got my driver's license in '79, so I've been driving for 37 years too.

If I were to spend $37k should it be a new '16 or a '79 that had been totally redone already...
hgil72034 - I know your code doesn't indicate it but what you describe sounds very close to what mine was doing with the 174 code. Seem to drive fine but at idle she wanted to (and sometimes did) die. Funny part was when I turned on the A/C she would idle better...maybe because of the extra load? Check for vacuum leaks.

Update on Repairs
I was thinking more of something that had been a frame off resto mod.

Cleaned the throttle and did the relearn procedure. Got it to the point when I changed the oil where it would idle funny but stay running. Hopefully these videos might give a clue. Currently, the only pending codes are P0012 and P2196.
Also there is condensation coming from the tail pipe with light smoke.
My conclusion that I'm leaning towards is a timing/phaser issue.

The rough/low idle is likely dirty throttle body plates, my brother/mechanic did me a huge favour and climbed into my engine bay and cleaned mine, lo and behold, my low idle code went away, better throttle response now too, she jumps like a scalded cat when I hit the gas now

Hey guys...got a issue with my 2004. I got about 85000 miles on my F150 and when I hit about 50-60mph there is a vibration on the floor panel area by the pedals and it feels like something is rubbing against my tires. I do have a set of BFG that needs major replacing, so I was planning on putting on my stock wheels until I get new tires...would that be the problem?
When I turn the steering wheel a little to the right it seems to go away but turning to the left..it gets louder and heavier...any ideas?

13 y.o f150
I have an 04 f150 XLT. 225,000Km 140,000 miles. Had to have transmission rebuilt, replaced the gas pressure sensor sending unit, failure do to corrosion and bad engineering, replaced the spark plugs at 100K 60,000 Miles (expensive, due to bad engineering) Replaced steering knuckle. So this truck had not been trouble free in its life, but it has not given me any trouble in the last three years at all. I think once you get all the bad parts replaced, you have a fairly decent truck. I have some suggestions about what some of the Ford Engineers can do, but I better not post them, but they really do need to sharpen up!

04 F150 Lariet. First 156,000 no problems. They tell me intake manifold gaskets need changing running lean bank 1 & 2 . I sprayed carb cleaner around where intake bolts to head and heard no change in the idle. So do I pay a shop $500 to change them or what? Changed MAF,O2 sensor, fuel filter and no change.

great truck
Only have 134,000 miles on it, but its been great. Few minor issues here and there that have been fixed but I love wrenching on my own truck. Only problem now that I cant solve is high voltage reading intermittently. Only caused one weird issue that resolved itself quickly but other than that, my truck has never left me stranded, never failed to start, and only had my engine light come on once in almost 13 years from cylinder 5 coil wires rubbing through insulation on bottom of power steering fluid bracket. Great truck, has had phaser tick on passenger side since day 1, no problems with it whatsoever yet.
