F150 Hesitation
I have an 2006 F150 XLT S/Crew, with a similar hesitation, however, mine is more pronounced on the highway when I want rapid throttle response for passing. I have the 2 second delay when the truck almost feels like it is going to stall out before kicking in, my father has the same effect in his 2005, I thought it was normal? Is this a common problem with F150's?

Here are the links to NHTSA and the ALLDATA TSB. I just printed out the ALLDATA TSB's and took it to the dealership and showed the mechanic. The NHTSA data does not have this TSB, I don't think it is updated as often as the ALLDATA site. It is TSB 6-19-03 for the hesitation problem.

When I had my 05, I took the tsb to dealer, they reflashed my TEM7 pcm code up to a BKP1. It was definately better at first ( perminately fixed a rough 1-2 upshift ) until the adaptive set in again then it was back to the hesitation. If I pulled the neg battery terminal for 30 minutes and reset adaptive, it probably would have done the same thing. On my 05 as well as my 06, a tuner was the only thing that totally elimates this.

06-22-7 UN-COMMANDED TCC APPLY ON THE 1-2 SHIFT CAUSING PERCEPTION OF HESITATION AND/OR LACK OF POWER DURING SHIFT
Publication Date: October 23, 2006
FORD: 2005-2006 Crown Victoria, E-150, E-250, Expedition, F-150
LINCOLN: 2005-2006 Town Car
2006 Mark LT
MERCURY: 2005-2006 Grand Marquis
This article supersedes TSB 06-8-2 to update the Service Procedure and add Service Labor Times.
ISSUE:
Some 2005-2006 vehicles with a 4R70/75E-W may experience an un-commanded torque converter clutch (TCC) apply or TCC partial apply immediately after the 1-2 shift. This may result in the perception that the vehicle lacks power or that the transmission is up-shifting too early. No DTCs are set during this condition.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure for verification and repair.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Monitor (TCC %) solenoid command state - duty cycle and (TC SLIP ACT) torque converter clutch slippage - RPM, while in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear with a TCC % reading 0.
If TCC % = 0 and TC SLIP ACT = less than 20 RPM then inspect the number 7 check ball (Figure 1) in the main control valve body for damage. Replace as required following the appropriate Workshop Manual (WSM) under Disassembly and Assembly of Subassemblies - Main Control Valve Body.
Figure 1 - Article 06-22-7
NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE IS PERFORMED IN 2ND GEAR AUTO (NOT MANUAL 2) MONITOR (TC SLIP ACT) AFTER THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) COMMANDS 2ND GEAR AND BEFORE THE VSS READS 35 MPH (56 KM/H).
If you receive any other reading, this TSB does not apply and follow normal diagnostic procedures as outlined in the appropriate WSM.
NOTE: IT IS NORMAL FOR THE PCM TO COMMAND 4TH GEAR AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 19 MPH ( 30 KM/H) WITH LIGHT ACCELERATION WHEN THE THROTTLE POSITION IS LESS THEN 20%.
