I have a 2005 FX4 supercab f-150. I have the stock 18 inch wheels. I want to get a 33 inch tire and would like to keep the stock 18 inch wheels. What sizes would fit without causing any rubbing or cutting? What are my options as far as sizes and tires go?? I like the mud grapplers and the super swamper irok tires.

I will be doing mostly highway driving during the week and offroading on the weekends. How loud will they be on the road? I dont mind some noise as long as its not so loud that i can t even hear my radio. How many miles would these tires last?

I know I have to install a leveling kit for the front. Is this something I can install myself or would I be better off taking it somplace?

Also if anyone has a picture of a similar set up i would love to see it.

Right. The 285/65-18 (33x11.50) or 305/65-18 (34x12.50) BFG AT KO would be an excellent choice.

 

It's my understanding that there are very limited options for the 18" rims, as far as tires go. Can someone give me some ideas on what brands/etc I have available as options?

This (http://www.edcostantetire.com/products.htm) is where I'll probably be going. Just by looking at this site, I liked the Kelly Safari AWRs, but I don't know if they'll fit. The only size with an 18 is LT265/70R18. What does the LT mean? I currently have P275/65R18.

I know nothing about tires and what sizes will fit what rims, etc. Any help is appreciated.

 

I'm kinda in the same boat. I want the BFG M/T's but don't want 35's. I want to stick with 33's but I'm having a hard time finding an aggressive, yet very street friendly (longer tread life, fairly quiet) tire. I want very minimal loss in low end and mpg too. I've thought about scaling down from 18's to 17's but just don't have the money for wheels and tires both right now. Any tire suggestions?

 

I have not been able to find a suitable replacement tire for the 18" wheels. I would like to have a set of 305/65-18's but have not located any.
I installed the leveling kit myself but would not recommend you try it unless you have all the right tools and mechanical experience. Don't even think about it without a spring compressor.

 

FWIW YFZ450 no longer has 18" wheels.I bought his 18" wheels and tires.I think he now has 17s.

Has nobody had to change their tires yet on their stock 18" wheels yet? What did you get?

 

I'm running a 2" Autospring kit and 33" Mud Grapplers on the stock 18" FX4 rims. I love this setup. The ride is pretty smooth. The Mud Grappler is a loud tire, though. Just turn the radio up and keep truckin'. I've had no issues with rubbing while using the truck off road. The Autospring kit is a fairly easy install provided you have the right tools and a little know how. As far as tire selection, Nitto makes both the Mud Grappler and Terra Grappler in 33"x12.50"R18. Toyo also makes their Open Country M/T in that size. I'm not sure about the tread life of my tires yet, I've only had them a few weeks. So far they are doin great and I've already got about 1800 miles on them. Here are some pics.

Only the mud grappler is offered in this size, but I do wish the terra grappler had more 18" options.

How are they wearing? Are they loud? Any loss in low end or mpg? I've heard that these are the lightest of MT's out there so that is a big plus!

 

The Leveling kit is very easy to install, took me about an hour and a half. Those 35's look good, thats what I want!

 

I went with the Nitto Terra Grappler 285/60/18 on the FX4 rim. I have not noticed any loss in mpg's and I like the look of the tire. It has a little wider foot print. I also do not notice it being any louder than the oem tire.
