Does any one else who owns a 2005-2006 f150 w/the 5.4L get terrible gas mileage my truck gets 11-12 mpg on the hwy. I put a K&N air fliter in and got nothing but better throttle response. Any I deas?

 

Umm..slow down? lol... I've been getting great mileage with mine, but that's only because i've been trying to do it. Having the Edge with the gauges (instant MPG) had made me sissy foot it a bit more getting on the freeway, taking off from lights etc...4x4 Scab with 3.55 gears and i'm averaging 18+

 

I get 11.5 mostly city driving. I have an XCal 2, magnaflow muffler and a tonneau cover. Nothing helps. It's been getting that mileage since it had 6 miles on it and no mods. Now it has 7500 miles. Hopefully this summer I'll make some road trips to see what I get on the freeway. It's pretty fun filling up my 36 gallon tank with premium. About $90 every 8 days or so.

 

My 05 FX4,gets better then 14mpg around town,and better then 18 on the hwy.I have a little under 3k miles so it's not broke in yet.I run a K&N dropin,flowmaster 40 cat back,sido.Oh yeah,3:73 LS.

 

My 06 XLT 5.4 is getting 12.7 -14.4 around town and on my first trip got 19+. It has 965 miles now. It has 3:73 gears and I have a CoverMaster cap on it. No mods.

 

im at 14k miles on my 05 f150 FX4 SCab, 35.7gal tank, 3.73ls w/ 33" muds, k&n drop-in, its 5 days away from its 1yr build day-
on the highway i get on avg 13mpg- if im lucky i'll make it to 14.5. running 80 mph most of the time. in town, my truck guzzles gas- im not full throttle, but i push the truck honestly (the roush off-road turns heads )- 10mpg. max

 

3.73, flowmasters, edge= 11.05mpg

 

mid elevens in town, 23k on the clock. 4x4 screw lariat, 3.73s

 

These are 6,000 lb. trucks with a thirsty 5.4l, what do you expect? The sticker from Ford says 14mpg. They have all the gauges, and a professional driver to get that number out of it. Not to mention it has a blue oval, Ford's get the worst gas mileage out of any car company as a whole.

Ideas...Avoid rapid acceleration and braking, don't speed, remove excess weight, avoid excess idiling, use cruise control, and use overdrive.

actually cruise control will consume more fuel on the hwy than you using your foot.. it's proven. a human can see a hill and anticipate load and adjust according to. a computer will not adjust until the load is recognized and speed starts to drop significantly, then kicks down to a lower gear to accel.. therefore using more fuel.. it actually works! Something i learned 10 years or so ago.. and every time i've tested it it has proven true. Give it a try.

 

I drive like an old man so I know it has nothing to do with being a lead foot, I've got 3:73gears and the only wieght added is a pair of nurf-bars. I was just wondering if anyone had dealt with a service issue pertaining to their fuel mileage.

 

You should be seeing 18+ mpg on the highway. Some folks have had their computer reflashed and noticed improved mpg's. A tonneau cover will also help increase fuel economy, especially on the highway. I noticed about 1 to 1.5 mpg increase when I put mine on. My best mileage was 21.6 driving at 60mph. I have the heaviest model too, an '05 Lariat Screw with 5.4, 4x4 and 3.73 gearing.
