I use Royal Purple, can't say enough about the "Purple". Tough to get, I buy mine online. I have thought about going to Moble1, used that on my previous truck. Anyone out there using the purple stuff, what are your thoughts on which one is "better"?

well i used motorcraft the first 5,000 and had the dealer do my oil change at 3,000 because it was free, but after changing out at 5,000 that oil was only 2,000 miles old and it looked like it had been in there double that, yea I was going to go the purple route but I too couldnt find it anywhere local and it was $5.25 a quart online and I paid $4.77 for mobil1 at wally world, so that was the biggest reason, Ive never used mobil1 before so I'll see how I like it in about another 4,700 miles, I have a oil related question though if anyone might be able to answer, I noticed after I put 6 quarts in during oil change, that even after I let it sit on level ground an hour or so my dipstick read low! I know the new cobras have a diptick problem they also have a 4.6 in them, they use 6 quarts as well but they always read low, just wondering if anyone else noticed this, btw I havent checked it since! but oil preasure is good!

Redline, RP or Amsoil......all other are wannbees.
By the way be sure to do your tranny, xfer case and diffs if another couple of MPG's interest ya. Just doing the motor is not doing synthetics justice.

I went from 16 to 19!!! MPG in one of my big ole Jeeps after a complete switchout. I will be doing my new FX when she hits 3000 mi.

You Mobil and other blended guys dont flame me, but those products dont even come close to taking the advantage of true synthetic lubricants. The analysis of the products are all over the net so do a little research and you will see what I mean.

Mobil does make a fantastic filter though.

1st oil change

I just changed the oil on my 04 Supercab (1500mi) with Amsoil 0W-30. I have read a few places that I should have left the original oil until 3k. That is just personal preference correct? I live up here in good ol North Dakota and it is about to get real cold here (down to -20 next couple months) and I wanted to make sure I had synthetic in there. Just want to make sure I didn't jump the gun. Thanks in advance!!!

has anyone used the filter mag?

http://www.filtermag.com/

sounds good in theory, especially the transmission filter.

What about that 5,000 mile line - does normal oil do a better job of break in?

Never heard of the that magnet thingy.. interesting concept.

Convnetional oil should be used for break-in for that first 1500 miles or so. Why? Synthetics are just too slick and may not pickup the fine particles that can be floating around a new engine. That's the rumor I've always heard....

Here is a website you should visit.

http://www.synthetic-oil-tech.com/d....s/ford5w20.htm

I went ahead and did my first change at 1000 miles. Then again at 3500. I switched to Mobil 1 5W 30 right away. The difference is small, but it is noticeably better.

If there was an amsoil distributor nearby, I'd try it, but the Mobil 1 is tops, and proven. I always laugh when people spend $30,000 or more on a new truck, and complain about an extra $20 on an oil change.

The Mobil 1 rocks.

So to those people that use Mobil 1 0w 20, what mileage intervals are a majority of you changing at? Still 5k?...or can you get away w/ a lot more than that?

I still do every 5k, give or a take 200 miles... I'm sure if you wanted to you could easily streach it to 6 or 7k, depending on your driving style and workload of the truck. If its a garage queen & freeway commuter, 7k. Hauling/working/lead foot: 5K.

Vehicles used to come with magnetic drain plugs for the same reason.
Hmmm.... I wonder why they stopped doing that?
